I lost my fitbit zip and had to buy a new one. Do I have to do something to set up the new one to my account or just continue syncing as before?

You need to link your new fitbit to your account.
Go into the account section of the app and select "set up a device". Choose "zip" and it will ask you if you want to replace your existing zip. Just say yes and follow the prompts. All your data, settings, badges etc will be retained.
