zip loses settings

Not only does my Zip fail to sync with Windows 10 desktop (have to do it manually a few times a week), but lately it has lost its settings even when it's been synced recently.  The time is wrong and the data are not credible.  Today at 12:05 PM the zip thought it was 12:38 AM (it has been resetting randomly to midnight), had recorded 2715 steps but only showed 185 calories burned, not exactly a reasonable combination.  My weekly report has shown entire days with 0 steps, clearly not true.  Is this unit defective? It's only two years old.  The sync issue has been a problem since the beginning but the flaky readings have begun in the past couple of months.

This started happening with my Zip today also, after following the recommendations from FitBit Customer Service (their recomendations actually made it worse!).

I just synced and it wiped out all my steps for today, but somehow I've burned 1100 calories. I'm pretty sure the time has been wrong for the last two days.  Your news is definitely not encouraging.  Time for a different model?

I was away for the weekend.  I synced before I left home, all was good, and then when I got to where I was going, the time was wrong.  I must have walked about 35000 steps over the weekend and since I can't sync to anything except the dongle in my laptop, I had to wait until I got home, knowing the Zip will store about 7 days of data.  Now that I'm home and it has synced, it shows 0 steps since I left home Saturday morning.  I'm done with my Zip.  In fact, I don't think I even want another Fitbit device because the customer support has been terrible.  My Zip stopped syncing to my Pixel last summer and up until March, they told me they were still "working on it".  Now that I know they've discontinued the Zip, I know it was a lie.  I'm within 150 miles of reaching the highest mileage badge and it just stinks to feel abandoned.

I did not know that the Zip has been discontinued altogether, but I am not surprised. I sync almost daily to my computer but even then the tracker will revert to "midnight" in the middle of the day, losing data. I've avoided customer service mostly but if I get another device it may not be a Fitbit, based on the replies I've gotten. Too bad.

I recently replaced my Zip as the old one had a cracked battery cover which meant the battery connection was dodgy. I assumed this was the reason for it re-setting and losing my data. However, the new one does it too! It will go blank and unresponsive, then come back on with the wrong time and no steps. When I sync it using the app the time corrects itself. Very frustrating and I have lost many days of data. I'm annoyed because it's only 6 months old, really don't want to spend out on a new one but feel I will also be moving away from FitBit soon. I don't want a bracelet style tracker so this is really my only option at the moment 😞

I have to add to my previous comment. I contacted Customer Support via chat and they have arranged for a warranty replacement.
