Do I have to keep

location services to “always on?”

or just “when using the app” - having it “always on” is taking its toll on my battery life.

You may be able to have it on a different setting, such as 'Never', 'Ask Next Time', or 'While Using the App', but you will get a constant bombardment of notifications telling you to change your settings.  It is very annoying.  Selecting 'No Thanks' does nothing to stop the notifications.  I do not want my GPS on all of the time as it drains my battery and my location is nobody's business.  Fitbit should respect my decision and allow me to select use GPS as I wish without annoying notifications.

@ianb107 @11252012 -- You can managing the notifications fitbit sends to you in the fitbit app.  Starting at the main app screen select your image at the top left to take you to your account, scroll down to "notifications" and then turn off "Force Quit Reminders"  I think this kills the reminder to go to 'always on' that many people seem to need to remind them of why their fitbit sometimes isn't working as expected.

Thank you BaltoScott for your expert tip.  I followed your advice and now switched off the option (which I didn’t know existed).

Thanks again.

I don’t see this option under “notifications” on the Fitbit app for my
Charge 2.

In Fitbit app select your Accnt (top LH icon) then go to the settings section of the screen below the devices and select notifications.  The Force Quit Notifications is the first option on the next screen.

I’ve switched mine off, and unfortunately have had the offending notification occur twice.  I probably need to resynch the app or reboot my iPhone.

Thank you for answering.  Unfortunately, I tried this and it did not work.  I turned closed down the app and reopened it, too.

I confirm that the problem still persists for me too.

@ianb107 @11252012 -- As an FYI, I've got location set to on "While Using the App" as opposed to "Never" which I think one or both of you use.  In the context, keeping the Force Quit Reminders off works for me (I don't get the reminder to change to always on when I open the app).

It may help to delete the app and then add it back.

I have the same issue. I bought a Fitbit product to track my heart-rate during exercise, track my sleep and as a watch. I bought a product that worked well for me. Now the rules have  been arbitrarily changed, and not for the benefit of users. My Fitbit has no GPS and I have the app on an iPad which I certainly don't take out with me. So why is location tracking needed? I feel I am suddenly being forced to provide data that is not necessary to provide the service I want from my FitBit.
My Fitbit screen is fading and I am looking for a replacement. Unless this is fixed very soon my next purchase will not be a FitBit.

Many thanks to all the others who posted their experiences here.

Hope to hear soon that this has fixed.

Thanks

Is there any way to have fitbit stop prompting me to turn this to ‘always’. I’ve decided to not share my location at all times. However I shouldn’t have to hit ‘no thanks’ every single time. I open the Fitbit app…

I own a Versa 3 and an iPhone 12 Pro Max. I keep getting a notification to allow the Fitbit app to run in the background. I have allowed it under general settings, I’ve allowed app refresh, I’ve allowed location always, all the suggestions I’ve found online I’ve done and it still says it. My app only syncs from time to time and I have to do it manually. It keeps unlinking from other connected apps too and not sharing my data so I have to unlink, force sync, and delink to pull the data. I’ve tried resetting from scratch and that didn’t seem to work either. Do I have a faulty watch? Thanks!

Please just fix the app to remove the push notificaitons to change location settings to always allow.  I can't see my screen.  Every time I open the app, I see the notification.  I changed my location services to off, since I did not want to use any of those features, but I still get the message EVERY time I look at the app.

I have a Luxe and have been a faithful Fitbit user for over 5 years. It is now the only app on my iPhone that is constantly nagging me to turn Location Services on to Always. I only use While Using for Location Services, and I am not changing that. Fitbit staff completely dismissed me, blamed IOS, even though I have all my notification settings off and no other app does this. What gives? I am ready to quit Fitbit.

And I can confirm that turning off Location Services to Never does not work either. In reading other comments, it sounds like Fitbit is running in the background without our permission which is why IOS is constantly alerting us to the problem. Fitbit will need to fix this or keep losing customers. Extremely poor customer service IMHO.

I don’t want to share my darn location.  Why does Fitbit feel it necessary to ask me every time I login?   Sometimes multiple times.   I’m used to being bombarded with the darn endless requests to upgrade.   But, seriously. I dont want to share my location.  I’m getting really tired of answering the prompts.    Please fix this

Hi @nursekohler  you read the information on location? click to see it.   You can turn off location and turn it back on when you wish to sync.

Agree. This drives me crazy, especially when I am actually actively using the location during a run. It prompts over and over asking if I want to allow it to use my location all the time. Nope. Haven’t changed my mind. I can’t even see my exercise tracking to check my stats because that prompt constantly is there.

It still keeps asking me to switch it to always even when I press No Thanks.  It’s a nuisance
