The Fitbit app suddenly wasn't syncing properly - it would be behind the Ionic step count by a thousand or two thousand daily steps. Tried all sorts of things, no good. So I deleted the app and re-installed, no good. Turned off bluetooth and back on again, no good. There is absolutely nothing wrong with my wifi, everything else works just fine. It's Fitbit! What the hell is going on with this company?

But no moderators seem to be telling us! You would think that there would be more transparency of information about this. I have an Ionic and for the last week or two I have been frantically trying to sort out connectivity and charging problems.
Since the app on my iPhone 6 cannot find my wifi anymore, bluetooth isn't working, I have been pulling my hair out trying to figure out what's going on.
A Google (the company that now owns Fitbit) search finds that my phone, running iOS 12.4, is no longer good enough for my 3+ year old Ionic.
Not everybody can just go out and buy a new phone, especially retirees. Besides, there is nothing wrong with either my iPhone 6 or my Ionic.
Thanks for the help Fitbit moderators. Not!

@Hammeroo I agree with you in that Fitbit didn't do a great job letting users know about this change. To be complete, the Android minimum OS changed, too. The same thing will happen to people who own older Android phones.
I am moving your pst to the iOS app forum. It is a better fit.

Thought I should let you guys know that I stumbled upon a reply to Michelmg by JuanJoFitbit, posted a couple hours ago. JuanJo gave a link to "How do I restart my Fitbit device". So I checked it out for the Ionic. I finally found out that the reason my device would not restart while holding down the left and bottom right buttons simultaneously is because you must hold them down for 10 seconds! All other instructions I have seen (including the manual I think) do not mention anything about 10 seconds, so I assumed it just would not reboot.
Anyway, now all is good and back to normal. It is now discoverable by the app on my iPhone 6 (iOS 12.4) and syncs just fine. My frustration has now evaporated! I am once again a happy chappie!

@Hammeroo I'm glad that you got your Ionic up and running again. Your title caught my eye because users who want get newer version of the Fitbit app will need a phone that supports iOS 13 or higher.
The real point of this post is to let you know that Apple doesn't support the iPhone 6 anymore. Yes, it works, but you won't get security updates. Please keep this in mind as you continue to use it.

@LZeeW Thanks for the advice. Yes, it's a shame that this seems to be the case. Whereas a good old fashioned wristwatch would often last forever. Oh well, that's progress (or profits) for you! 😥
