App communication with fitbit.com

I have *terrible* cell reception at my desk at work -- "No Service" or one bar.

I do have access to a corporate guest network, but it only supports "known port" HTTP and HTTPS communication AFAIK. I can access the FitBit web site (as I am now on a Chromebook), but the app will not sync. If I drop the network, the app will sync, but commensurate with the quality of my cell service (slow, spotty success).

What ports, protocols, and target hostnames is the app using to communicate? If I know what to ask for, I may be able to put in a plea for myself and the thousands of other FitBit users on this network.

I would be pessimistic about my chances, but I got them to allow Blink, so there is some precedent for change.

Thanks for the information!

Hi @rob42. Welcome to the forums.

Thanks for sharing detailed information about this behavior, as well for your research and the steps tried on your own to get your Fitbit syncing with the Fitbit app correctly. While currently we don't have that information available to share, let me recommend to try syncing on a strong network.

I'll be around if you need anything else.

Hi, Lizzie.

I am asking for computer nerd information on what Internet ports and protocols the app uses, and the fully qualified domain name(s) of the host(s) that it contacts. This will help me to get the FitBit app working on my work network for me and a lot of my co-workers.

Perhaps you could pass this along to a "Tier 2" geek who would surely know the answer to this question?

Thanks,

@rob42   I am not a "Tier 2" geek.  To really get information from a Fitbit Tier 2 geek, you would need to contact Support.  This is a peer-to-peer help site.  But I know a lot about "how this stuff works" to give you some insight if you choose to contact Support.

In order for a Fitbit tracker to sync with a computer, it must support the Fitbit Connect software or support the Fitbit app for Windows 10.  Chrome OS does not support Fitbit Connect.

I hope this helps.
