App draining battery on phone.

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

My phone battery is running down unusually fast, and it appears to be the fault of Fitbit. In one minute of activity, Fitbit accounts for 37 percent of my battery usage!!

I have auto sync turned off. That 1 minute represents 1 instance of manual sync. Beyond that the app was not even open. This is not in any way acceptable!!

App version 2.82.1 iOS12.0.1 iPhone 8

Hello @SunsetRunner, I hope you're doing well, it's nice to see you around. Smiley Happy

I appreciate your participation in the Forums and for bringing this situation to my attention. At this moment I will report it to our team so they can take a better look at this situation. Once we have more information to share with you about this, we'll make sure to post it here in the official Forums.

In the meantime, please force-quit the app when you're not in use, this will prevent the app from running on the background.

Thanks for your patience and understanding, if there's anything else I can do for you, please feel free to reply.

@MarcoGFitbitForce-quitting the app does stop it from running in the background, but I shouldn't have to do that.

After downloading 2.82 I didn't force-quit, to see if the problem was solved by the update, and it is not. One minute of screen time (one manual sync) led to 38 minutes of background activity and 21 percent of the battery usage for the last 24 hours. When I have every auto feature turned off, what is the app doing with all that background activity?

I am having the exact same problem on my Oneplus 3T. It was fine a few updates ago but recently it has started sucking the battery again...

I appreciate you have reported this situation as well. Please note that this issue affected the Fitbit app on Android a while ago but the issue was resolved with an update. Please make sure the Fitbit app version installed on your phone is the latest one. If you're still having trouble with the latest update, please uninstall and reinstall the app. Make sure to sync your tracker or watch one last time to prevent any data loss.

I hope this can be helpful, if you need further assistance with the Fitbit app on Android, please refer to the Android board. Thanks for keeping our Community organized.

I tried uninstall and reinstalling plus trying older versions and the latest beta; the fitbit app tops my battery usage with every single try... It has only started doing this the past week and I haven't changed or updated anything else on my phone.

@MarcoGFitbit

I installed the latest update (2.83) and synced twice over 24 hours. The screen time was 1 minute, and the app accounted for 34 percent of battery usage over that 24 hours. Two manual syncs, 1 minute = 34%.

Seriously, this is completely unacceptable. Force-quitting the app every time I use it is getting very old, but the alternative of leaving it open is worse. When will this be fixed?

I appreciate you have contacted us back regarding this issue. At this moment I would like to suggest you to got your phone Settings > Fitbit and disable "Background App Refresh", this has been proven to be very effective for this situation.

Thanks for your patience and understanding, I hope you have a great day.

Thanks for your suggestion, @MarcoGFitbit, but that feature is already turned off, so it is not the cause of the problem, and that is not a solution.

I have been using my iPad to sync, and the app doesn't have this problem there. Thus, my guess is that it's related to MobileTrack. Please ask your engineers to look into this.
