App is tracking steps that I'm not taking

Hello,

I just bought a FitBit Charge 2 today after having the Flex and the One. I have not used either for over nine months and only used my phone (Iphone Health App) to track my steps. After purchasing the Charge 2 I deleted my FitBit app as I had noticed that my step counts where in the 40,000 range even though I would only walk about 4,200 steps max. After reinstalling the app and not tracking any steps using it for the nine months, I went to setup my Charge 2 and my app again said that I had 42,000 steps (without having either my Flex or One with me). Is there anyone else having an issue where steps are being tracked without using a FitBit? Please someone help me!

Hello @Theresa358, thanks for joining us, it's great to have you on board! Smiley Happy

This seems like a very odd situation. Where are you able to see the large amount of steps? Are you currently using your Charge 2? How often do you sync your tracker with the Fitbit app?

In this particular case, I would like to suggest you to restart your tracker and set it up as a new device to reset the connection between your phone and your Charge 2.

To set up your tracker as a new device:

  1. Open the Fitbit app and tap on the Account symbol at the top right corner of the screen, then tap on "Set up a New Device"
  2. Choose your tracker and follow the onscreen instructions to continue
  3. When the app asks you to replace your current tracker, please replace it and continue with the process.

Additionally, please reply to me with a screenshot of where you're able to see the 42,000 steps so I can check this further and after setting up your tracker as a new device, please keep an eye on the tracker and the Fitbit app and let me know if you're still seeing a big and odd amount of steps on them.

I hope this can be helpful, give it a try and keep me posted in case you need anything else! Smiley Wink

I'm experiencing similar issues with my FitBit.  It wakes me up at midnight every night to congratulate me for 10k steps (which I know I'm not getting)  It's also showing 40k steps.

I have not attempted the reset yet.  I will try that and keep you posted.

Thanks for your help.
