First, I didn’t have the option to choose to do this update or not and that bothers me. Nor did I know it was even on the horizon. That aside though, I’ve run into it at least one new complication dealing with exercise. It automatically determines the type, as usual, and is more often than not, correct. In the past, if it wasn’t, I could go in and change the category of that exercise to a different type without altering the actual details. Now that ability is no longer available. Also, of course, the interface again is untenable in my opinion, but my main issue is the inability to re-categorize exercises if necessary.

It’s possible, but it’s a royal pain in the rear. From the Fitbit app, go to today and then go to Exercise Days. Click the 3 dots in the upper right corner and then Manage Data. Scroll down to Exercise (exercise logs, GPS tracking) and select it. In a teal color you’ll see Review Your Data. Select it and you’ll see your entries. Select the one that’s incorrect and then Categorize Exercise.

First, it's under the user control which apps to accept or deny updates. That is set in the app store individually for each app on your phone. If you are getting fitbit apps without choosing it, same thing is probably happening for every other app on your phone. Fitbit merely makes them available. The default is generally set for all apps to download unless set otherwise. But you can set for most any app not to accept updates.

Actually I do, but that doesn’t answer my question, or rather, resolve the problem. I need to be able to fix this, so I really look forward to you telling me how.

Wow, I don’t know how you figured that out, but thank you for doing it!!
I hate the new app update in general - it’s ugly, clunky, and provides less data - but what bothered me most was the inability to recategorize generic workouts. This is ridiculously complicated for what was once such a simple task. I am very grateful to you for sharing how we are still able to accomplish it, though.
I sincerely hope, but unfortunately doubt, that Fitbit will listen to its customers and make this easy to do again. Everything they supposedly did as of the last app and firmware update to make things more streamlined actually made things more difficult for me.

Looks like that's a nogo in Android. Manage Data doesn't have those options.
