Is the Fitbit app supposed to sync in the background or not?
I understand an option called "all-day sync" used to exist but it has been removed and the function is now always enabled.
But then when are these background syncs supposed happen?
Then, when is the data uploaded to Fitbit's servers? Shouldn't it be at the same time, in the background?
This is important because I bought the Inspire HR mainly for use with a 3rd party app (Noom) which reads step-count data from Fitbit's servers (apparently). I don't want to have to open the Fitbit app to sync every time I want to open Noom.

Welcome to the Fitbit Community, @redrocklobster.
To improve your experience with notifications, syncing, and firmware updates, the option to turn off all-day sync, as you mentioned correctly, was removed from the Fitbit app. When your phone is near your Fitbit device with Bluetooth turned on, it periodically syncs with the Fitbit app to update your stats and download available firmware updates. The synced data is uploaded to the Fitbit's servers. For more information, see How do Fitbit devices sync their data?
You can find information about connecting your Fitbit account with another app at How do I connect my Fitbit account with another app?
Let me know how it goes.

Thanks but this did not even address my primary question, or most of the other secondary ones.
