Like others, I am just discovering the Charge 3 only works with iOS 11+ and can't be setup with a laptop either. I still use an iPhone 5 (one generation shy of iOS 11 compatibility) cause it keeps chugging. I will likely upgrade phones in the coming months. Until then, is it possible to use a friend's newer phone for setup, then just use the UI of the Charge 3 independently day to day, and eventually download the app and connect to my new phone?
In other words:
Is there a permanent/necessary connection between an individual phone and account, or is it just the type of hardware required for setup and I could login through the Fitbit app on other devices (like my laptop- 2012 MacBook Pro) to see data afterward?
I mainly want to start using the Charge 3 right away for swimming HR and lap recording.
Thanks!

Hi @DN25. Welcome to the Community Forums.
It's great that you have a Charge 3 and thanks for letting me know that it's unable to be setup with your phone. To answer your question, you can use your friend's phone to set up your Charge 3 just make sure it's compatible so you'll not have issues during the process. Please note that, although your tracker will record your stats and exercises, you'll need to sync it using a supported phone, tablet or computer so your data can be transferred to your account and to keep the time/date updated.
If you'll be able to sync with this phone, let me suggest to refuse the pair process after the set up process so you won't receive your friend's notifications on your tracker by mistake. Once you have your new phone, you can pair it so you can receive your own notifications.
I'll be around if you have another question.
