Dark mode for iOS Fitbit app

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

Many of us routinely use the mobile app, Android or iOS, early in the morning and even late at night due to the variances of our lives. Having a blanket, bright white screen can really irritate people’s eyes, mine included.

People have been asking about a dark theme for the app for years. In other forums, the problem gets brushed off and people are referred to a previous locked thread. Now that new updates have rolled around for devices, the Fitbit app *still* does not support an in-app dark theme.

I think making this adjustment would satisfy a lot of other people.

Hi, @SR1025, Fitbit have confirmed that this feature is “not currently planned”.  However, you can still vote for it in the feature request forum here.

Just curious if the Fitbit app has a dark mode option yet?

Hi there @Meganlancaster, welcome to the Community Forums. I agree with your suggestion when it comes about bright color schemes during the night. At the moment there is no option to do this, though.

We're always striving to enhance Fitbit products and services, and we appreciate all of the input we receive from our customers. We do not currently have plans to release this feature. You can learn more about how Fitbit decides what suggestions get released in our FAQs

I've moved your post to the iOS App board to keep our forums organized.

Thanks for taking the time to share your feedback with us and we will let you know if anything changes.

Unfortunately still no plans last I heard but this feels like a necessary feature and quite easy to add. Those little cards that you can share about your progress (for stuff like food, sleep) have a dark theme to them so why doesn't the app? Widgets would also be nice with iOS 14 out but I'm not getting my hopes up. 😞

That feature request is only for datk mode on Android, not iOS!

I would love to see dark mode as an option for this app. I hate the white bright background especially early in the morning or at night.

Hello @MeganKR87 and welcome to the Help forum.  Many, and I mean MANY users have asked for a dark mode.  Fitbit's answer is Not Currently Planned.

I badly want dark mode! To use the new sleep features and oxygen saturation levels you have to open the app to sync first thing in the morning. The bright white app shining painfully into my eyes is a daily annoyance. Apple and most iOS apps have dark mode now. In fact FitBit is the only app I have that isn’t already on dark mode. FitBit is behind the times.

Same here. Literally every single app except Fitbit has dark mode. I use dark mode 24/7 because bw isn’t ideal for dyslexia and dark mode is a lot easier to read.

Found this and it worked to turn into Dark mode:

To enable Smart Invert, open “Settings” and navigate to Accessibility > Display & Text Size. In “Display & Text Size” settings, scroll down until you see “Smart Invert.” Flip the switch beside it to turn it on. Your screen will immediately turn black.

Thank you for pointing it out.

I just tried that.
Yes, it does turn Fitbit app dark.

But it’s not the same as Dark Mode. It turns the Fitbit turquoise into orange so it’s orange and black instead of turquoise and black like Dark Mode would be. Same thing on all other apps as well. Smart Invert also reverses the colour of all my widgets, app switcher and App Library (to white). In total my phone appears a lot more white with Smart Invert than it does on Dark Mode when only Fitbit is white.

But the strangest thing (or logical, it’s called invert after all) is that it makes my purple screen tint green. I use screen tint to make it easier for me to read white websites, such as this one.

So close enough but still not the actual fully dark phone I would prefer. Might be good for someone else though so thanks for pointing this out.

Smart Invert is a terrible workaround.

It's absurd that we're in February of 2022 and Fitbit won't implement something that users have been requesting for YEARS.

MyFitnessPal hasn't done it either, and I have pretty much lost hope that either app will add the feature. Not gonna stop me from complaining about it every chance I get, though. 😂

Yes give us dark mode please!!! I have migraines & cluster headaches; my eyes are super sensitive to bright white light.

I think that there should be a dark mode option on the Fitbit app.

worked on iphone thanks

@Julia_G  Can we get a reason why? It's pretty clear a lot of people want this, and it's an easy feature to add. Pretty lame for FitBit to just refuse to do it. Terrible customer experience

Agree!!! I hate that it is my most expensive app but they won't make dark mode. Stupid.

I complained about it on Twitter recently, and got a response from [at]FitbitSupport saying I should vote on and add a comment to the feature suggestion thread. I pointed out that I had voted already but the thread was locked for comments, AND that they need to look in other areas of the community forums: "You probably ought to search the rest of the community forums. There are people starting new threads asking about this all the time, probably because the comments are locked on the thread in the suggestion board. Can't just look at the votes on this."

The response to that was "Got it. Thanks for your feedback. We'll surely take note of this."

I don't believe them, but it's more interaction than I had the last time I pointed out what month and year it was with no dark mode. 🤷‍:male_sign:

Yep. A year and a half later, still no dark mode. And no widgets.
