Deleted steps after manually adding exercise

Why does my Inspire delete over 2000 steps after I manually add exercise?  Sometimes when I have walked for 30 minutes, Fitbit does not count this as exercise.  When I manually add this as exercise the app then deletes 2000 steps from my total so I am back to the total number of steps I was on before I exercised. Why is this?  How do I add the steps that were deleted?

Hi, @Silverz! Unfortunately, when you create a manual activity like walking from your app, it overwrites the step/distance activity from that time with the estimate from the manual activity. If you want to guarantee your walk is tracked, start and stop the activity from your tracker manually. You might also want to check the settings in your app for how long you have to be doing something for auto-detect to kick in (found under account-->goals-->activity).

Makes no sense for it to overwrite! It (the app) adds heart rate activity to manually added activities, it should be a similar process for steps!

The only way I found to reinstate a lost item like STEPS is to delete theFitbit app completely and then install it again from the App Store.

@Bouxx   I want to clarify one something, so I know we are writing about the same thing.  When users write about manually adding an exercise, it means that they tapped on the "+" sign on the Exercise tile, slid the toggle to log, then entered an activity.  Users should only do this if they weren't wearing their Fitbit at the time.  It will replace existing data with estimates.  The way I understand the OP's post, the auto-recognition feature (SmartTrack) failed to recognize her walk.  Unfortunately, SmartTrack isn't quite as smart as it we expect it to be.

Manual logging can only overwrite existing data.  It is an older feature and is working the way it was programmed.
