Welcome to the forums @Dsw314
All you need to do is go to each individual profile of a friend and click to unfriend them. They won't know you've done this.
Keep on stepping!

Hello @Dsw314, its nice to see new faces around our Community. @Odyssey13 has provided you a great suggestion and is the best to do if you don't want to compete with your friends. As an additional note I wold like to add you can change your settings too to control who can see your steps on the leaderboard, although you would see their steps, they wont be able to see yours on the ranking.
Just you need to go to your Account settings and in your profile change to "Hide Me"
So now you have other alternative to manage your Dashboard, but if you don't want to see your friends anymore you can follow @Odyssey13 advice, here is an example that will illustrate this great tip.
See you around and let us know if you have more questions.
