Discrepancy between Fitbit and Apple Health step count

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

I have used the Power Sync app to sync my Fitbit data to Apple Health automatically each day, but I’m finding that my step count is always recorded as significantly higher in Apple Health than what is on my Fitbit.  I need the step count data from Fitbit to be available on Apple Health for another app I share with my friends for my daily step count results as it won’t sync from Fitbit, only from Apple Health.

Can someone please advise me how to get matching data between Fitbit and Apple Health?

Other info:  I don’t use an apple watch, only my fitbit.  My phone is rarely on my person but in my handbag or near me on a table or chair.  I don’t understand why Apple Health’s data would increase my step count above what’s been synced from Fitbit?  All the other data synced from Fitbit (cycle tracking, sleep, etc) is correct - it’s just the step count that is different (by several thousand steps)!

Anyone please know how to correct this?

Hello @Abby1983 and welcome to the Community.  I don't use Power Sync to sync my data to Apple Health, but it sounds like your Apple Health is adding your Fitbit steps to the steps counted by your iPhone.  From my search, you correct this in your Apple Health app.  This is not a Fitbit issue.  According to my search, you can prioritize the data source in your Health app.

  • Open the Health app
  • Tap on Browse in the bottom right
  • Tap on Activity, then Steps
  • Scroll to the bottom of the page and tap on Data Sources & Access
  • Tap on Edit in the upper right of that page
  • Look in the DATA SOURCES section.  Do you see the three horizontal lines on the right of each source (aka, hamburger icon)
  • Lightly press and hold on the Fitbit hamburger icon and drag it to the top of the list
  • Tap on Done in the upper right of that page

Thank you LZeeW,

This was a super helpful response with clear step-by-step instructions.

Fitbit is not listed in the data sources section, but Power Sync is.  I moved it to the top of the list as it said that it would choose the top one on the list as the ‘priority’.  The previous top one on the list was my iPhone.

As Power Sync auto-syncs the data from my Fitbit to Apple Health, hopefully this has now resolved the issue.  I’ll see what it does over the next week or so.

Thanks again!

@Abby1983   If this doesn’t fix things, please seek help from Apple Support.  This isn’t a Fitbit issue.
