Exercise days in iPhone app are being lost

Using iPhone app 4.23 (42343025) with Inspire 3 on 20001.210.26

Today when looking at exercise days for weeks or months the correct days will display momentarily and then many of them will disappear, showing fewer days as "exercise days". This is a new problem today.

When I try to see my exercise data in the app for last week it only shows Saturday as an exercise day but I walked 5 days last week and until today all the data was there and looked correct. Today the data shows no exercise for Sun-Fri in the weekly summary. Only Sat is considered to be an exercise day.

If I look at today and then go back by day to last Friday, I see correct steps at 17971, Zone Min at 198, Miles at 8.45, cal at 3368. But I DO NOT see the exercise I recorded listed in the bottom of the EXERCISE DAYS box where I walked for 2 hours. It is gone. I started the exercise as I always do by tapping the + sign, selecting walk, hearing progress notifications each mile, and ending the workout. Many of these workouts are now gone and those are the days with incorrect data in the week and month summaries and missing exercise data in the daily view.

I have reset the inspire 3 device from the clock face using settings and reset. I have synched the device. I have ended and restarted the application on the iPhone. I do not know if my app was at version 4.23 yesterday when all my data was showing up. It may have updated to 4.23 without me knowing. I know the iPhone updated to 17.6.1 last week.

How do I get the app to display all my hard earned data again?

Thank you

For what it's worth, this is happening in the Android version of the app as well. Hopefully Google/Fitbit fixes this in a way that gets our data back.

I’m getting a similar problem. No exercise that I have logged using my Charge 6 since 3 Sept.  I have done 3 walks and 1 gym workout but none are showing up in the app.  Steps ARE being tracked correctly.

My Charge 6 show 3 days of activity/exercise - my app shows none. I’ve uninstalled / reinstalled the app, ‘forgotten’ the Charge 6 from Bluetooth settings, replaced the Charge 6 in the app, and restarted the Charge 6 a number of times yet nothing seems to fix it.

Same issue here, started a few days ago! Have tried everything suggested in the online forums. Are Fitbit actually listening or trying to fix this?

Best Answer

I've lost all the activities I logged using my Charge 5 (exercise logged using start/finish on the watch). The activities just disappeared from my iOS app.

I’m hoping they see this, or notice the bug on their own, and then fix it in the next update!!

I chatted with support below. They say it may take a couple of weeks to fix and no guarantees they will have a complete fix.

I can see your device is up to date. You can look for the update on your app. We are on 4.25 version

Regarding the issue that you are experiencing, the developers are doing a few backend changes to the Fitbit data.

You may notice discrepancies in steps, distance, and calories.

Some data from 3rd party apps may be missing and Calories burned may be different between the device and the app.

We apologize for the inconveniences. We’re aware of the issue and that a fix will be released to correct their data within the next few weeks.

Hopefully it would not take that long
Juan · 8:43 PM
I don't care about the fine points but it deleted my workouts for many days and each were about 2 hours long with GPS. They are gone but the steps, and active zone minutes look normal for the days
It says I did not exercise on those days where the workouts are missing. So my monthly calendar looks like I am pretty lazy. Will that get fixed? Will the workouts return so I can see them?

I understand the concern regarding your workouts that are missing. That is a lot of work, time and effort. That is part of the issue our developers team is working on. We really hope for a quick resolution. I cannot assure you the missing data is coming back, I do not want to create false expectations, but I am sure they are working for every customer that want to see their data correctly portrayed in the app

Do you have additional questions for me?
Juan · 8:53 PM
No - thank you for the info. I will wait patiently for a fix. The good news is the recent workouts seem to be solid. Thank you!

You are most welcome. I hope the same for you and the other customer that are having the same issues with the app.

Thanks very much for this. I tried to log the fault before finding this community thread, but as I haven’t switched to google it refused to accept it. Great to know they are working on it. I am having so many problems with things not working with the app for both myself, an inspire 2 & my daughter’s ace whenever updates occur, I am starting whether it’s worth paying for the premium membership. Especially all my data disappearing. Here’s hoping things get better! Thanks again.

Hey all!
I found this thread when I was having the same issue. Ironically, it had happened right after I had updated my tracker. I just looked at my Fitbit app and my App Store and it appeared to need to be updated as well. Just updated it and now I am seem to be able to log my workouts.

Just looked again an hour later and now it is gone so nevermind!!

My days disappeared as well:  I had a major heart event in March of 2023. Part of my motivational wellness was changing my exercise habits and getting a 30 minute walk daily. It has added motivation to be able to view solid months highlighted as having completed exercise and now that has disappeared and only some days are highlighted- I’m so disappointed.

Best Answer

You may find that your steps and step history are intact. Mine are and my
daily zone minutes are looking good. I'm also working to build up my
cardiovascular strength, lower my resting heart rate, and increase my HRV.
That data seems solid and I can see weekly, monthly and yearly numbers under steps, zone minutes, and distance.

What I don't see is all the actual daily workouts I've logged. about 1/2 of
them are not showing. I think the data exists in the backend but their app
is confused about what to display or they messed up something on data
conversion for a new version and lost them. We'll see but my new workouts
seem to be retained for the last week since the new firmware update to version
20000.210.26

Keep up the good work!

Hey seaward, your discussion with Google support sounds like an AI chat. I've been waiting 10 months for the "bring back seconds" fault. I have the same issue you've described about when scrolling backward by the week and month the calendar flashes all the exercise days and then they disappear except for a few days at the beginning of the month. I've found that if I scroll down from those "exercise days" the most data is there even if it states 0 exercise. The problem is that the app update version 4.25 has corrupted the data. I'm using iPad - 4.25 app update - Versa 2 version 72.1.23. This 2km run (actually a fast walk) was recorded on the Exercise app by tapping the buttons. It's not just autostart activities that are corrupted.corrupted datacorrupted data

I logged this problem with support and they looked at my data and said that there are workouts/exercises.  Initially they suggested it was because I had auto-start on for some exercises and that I should turn that off (!!!). I mentioned it had already been logged, and also pasted a link to this and they came back to me saying it was a known issue and that it was being worked on.

Somehow they have right royally screwed things up - why they dont just back out the current version I dont know.

I'm going to chase up on my case ID - will let you know the outcome

Best Answer

Yes - it seems like they made some major changes (improvements) to try to detect all sorts of obscure workouts and really screwed things up. My hunch is they implemented all this autodetect logic and went back into history and autodetected different exercises in my history based on their dubious detection logic.  This then overwrote the manually entered exercises on the fly as we scrolled back and it re-evaluated daily histories.

The fatal flaw was forgetting to treat human entered workouts as more important than auto detected workouts. Or maybe the big flaw was to turn auto-detect on for so many exercises at once without warning people that their history would be re-evaluated if auto-detect was on.

I too, have turned off auto-detect for exercises on my fitbit device

Just my guess. You can treat this post as fan fiction or just pure uninformed speculation.

Best Answer

Did you try turning off auto-start? I have not tried that. Ironically, the only days that show for me are auto-start days - when I'm in a store walking around. The days I go to the gym and walk 3.5 miles, setting the device to EXERCISE are all gone. I've been using Fitbit for nine years.

I am having this issue also which I noticed Friday 9/4/2024 after updating my mobile apple app on 9/3/2024. I tried submitting feedback through the Fitbit app, but not sure it went through.

I lost about a weeks worth of data (Aug 25 - Aug 31) and have had to manually enter all exercise since then.

i keep waiting for a new app to drop with a fix for the prior fixes which didn’t fix anything.

Super frustrating.

Best Answer

Yes I turned off auto start and auto finish for every exercise in the fitbit watch settings. I did this all by swiping on the watch itself.

I use the app to manually start my exercises that I want to track and the recent ones are visible and seem solid for now. The ones that are missing were removed around Sept 1, I think it was just after some update. I think that was the same update that created all the new exercises I see now.

Best Answer

‘Chatted’ to support today.  Yes they still have the issue and are working on it, should be fixed within 2-3 days if not before.

So we’ll start the clock now on 13 Sept - it should be fixed by Monday 16th.  I’m not holding my breath.

Thanks for chatting with them! I hope this comes to pass!
