Fitbit Update 9/19/16
This issue where users experience a red "(not synced)" error next to their exercise logs on the iOS App has been resolved with the release of iOS App version 2.27. Click here to update your App if you haven't already.
Thanks you for everybody's patience while we worked this one out!
Fitbit Update 5/23
There is currently a bug where some iOS users see a red "(not synced)" error next to some of their exercise logs. Our team is aware and currently working on fixing this bug. Apologies for any inconvenience that this creates.
Please do not uninstall/reinstall the Fitbit App, uninstalling/reinstalling the Fitbit App could cause data loss. If possible, I would also recommend logging activities on Fitbit.com until a fix is available.

I am afraid to try this proceedure Heatlander suggests after reading through all the previous frustrations. Has anyone else tried this yet? I'm just being nervous nellie

I just tried it, and lost three old, unsynchronized GPS tracks. As advertised. Including one the day before yesterday.
I'm going to make sure I go exercise for more than 90 minutes today, and report back.

Same problem with the Fitbit Charge HR. When I take a long walk or run, the activity will not sync. This seems to happen with walks/runs of 9 - 10 miles or more. The app records the workout, but then indicates in red text "not synced." I've tried to sync the workouts manually by selecting the workout and then tapping the red bar labelled "Try again to sync," but this does not work either.
This issue is discussed in the following Fitbit community forum as well:
https://community.fitbit.com/t5/Charge-HR/Long-runs-will-not-sync/td-p/1378224/
In that forum, the solution posted by Moderator MarreFitbit at 07-28-2016 04:15, edited 07-28-2016 04:17, did not work either. Performing the sequence of steps recommended resulted in me losing the workout from my app altogether, so now I cannot even try to sync it. (I did not uninstall/reinstall the app; I just logged out, rebooted my iPhone, and logged back in as recommended).
It seems lot of Fitbit users are having this problem. While Fitbit seems to be unreliable for longer walks and runs, I've had no problem with the app Map My Run and would recommend that to anyone looking for a walking or running app.

So far, Heatlander's proposed work around is not working. After going through his process, I went on a 2-hour walk yesterday evening. So, I now have a GPS track with 2:05:32 worth of data. As of this morning, it's still not synchronized.
Additionally, I was careful to keep this at a walk, so I have a single step track of 2:05:29 to match up. In past run/walks, the step track wound up getting split between auto-detected runs and walks. That complication won't be a factor here.

Exact same thing - followed steps and lost today's map / splits / distance, etc. Was a 10.16 mile walk ... poof! Seeing the problem dates back to May, I'm disappointed that FitBit hasn't fixed it. I used to use MapMyRide but had changed my habits when I got my Charge. Rethinking using the App for long exercises in the short term and using MMR. Then I've got data in two places ... which is sort of pointless.

Just completed the annual Perth, City to Surf with GPS Activity being tracked and now the only thing I have benifited from wearing the fitbit; is it telling me how many steps I walked.
It's not a very attractive product to have ... undocumented features (bugs) ...

Hi FitBit,
any news on this issue - this issue/bug/feature really sucks
Activities started from the app seemingly don't sync (or is it 90 minutes plus?), activities started from the tracker sync....
