Exercise types don't appear in search results

For the last two weeks or so I’ve been having this issue: When I want to manually log an activity, I can choose from the list of previously logged exercises. But when I want to select another activity from the list, the whole list is empty. No matter what I search for, there is no result, both on the app and the online dashboard. The same goes for changing an already logged activity. Let's say I want to change 'workout' to 'aerobics'. I do not get any results. I have alreadyntried setting the language form Dutch to Dutch (english) and that helps for a little time but then it automatically goed back to Dutch. I have a fitbit charge 3, and iOS 13.1.2.

Any ideas? Thank in advance!

Hi @timmenator. It's great to have you on board!

Thanks for letting me know about the Fitbit app's behavior, as well for the steps that you've tried on your own. I'm glad that your iPhone is updated and I'll help you out with this. Just to confirm, do you remember since when this started to happen? Also, did you try using a different browser when going to your fitbit.com dashboard? If you've not done so, please try the following steps on your iPhone:

  1. Log out from the Fitbit app.
  2. Verify if the Fitbit app is already updated.
  3. Force quit the Fitbit app and reboot your phone.
  4. Open the Fitbit app and log back into your account.
  5. Tap on the exercise tile > your exercise > and categorize exercise to edit that information.

If you're not prompted with other exercise types, please take a screenshot so I can take a deeper look. For instructions to attach it in your reply, check this post.

Keep me posted.

Hello Lizzy, Thanks you for the reply earlier, but it didn't work form me. My app is up to date and I even try to reinstall it. Is there an other way to fix this?

Hi!

I’m trying to add weights workouts to the app, but searching for an exercise does not yield any results at all.
Please add to your list of things to fix since iOS upgrade. 🙂

Hi,

I have the same problems and the suggested steps did not work for me either.

Even if I go to the dashboard on Fitbit.com to log an excercise I can't search for excercise types there. The only results I can get are some of the custom types that I have used.

I also noted that the swedish version of fitbit.com is not working:

https://www.fitbit.com/sv-se/home looks like this:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="ISO-8859-1"?>

<Error><Code>NoSuchKey</Code><Message>The specified key does not exist.</Message><Key>marketing-pages/prod/releases/2019-10-09t16h00/sv-se/home.html</Key><RequestId>AC58E89F852FF170</RequestId><HostId>ayyVOLqHBS5ta7xn8+oPq+16/ra2yhiRqiPfqO10M7zplCXk727ym6ps6P57HyZF3q9GJzZU+FU=</HostId></Error>

Hello @Ariesse

I understand you want to add “weights”  to your workout. Let’s me explain how:

open your Fitbit app

tap the plus sign on your exercise tile

Now tap log at the top of your screen

begin tying weights into the search box

you will see weights now displayed

tape the weights and then add

😃 I hope I was able to answer your question. Please tap “best answer “ under this post if I indeed answer your question. It helps other who are seeking answers to the same type of question. Thanks

Yes, that is how I normally do it. However, since the iOS upgrade, when I start typing in Weights (or even finishing the word), nothing is displayed.

Hello again @Ariesse

You might just need a fresh restart. Try this:

log of your Fitbit app

force shut the app by swiping up

shut down your device completely and wait about 1-2 mins

now turn your device back on

log on to your Fitbit App

😃now try typing in weights and see if it appears. Please let me know.

Hi @rocc42 and @Ariesse. It's great to see new faces around. @SunsetRunner, great to see you here and thanks for your help!

I've moved some of your posts to this new thread so you can receive more related responses. I appreciate you for trying the steps posted above, and I'm sorry that this is still happening. This shouldn't be happening, and so I can further investigate I'll need you to provide me with your iPhone's model and iOS version. In the meantime, and if possible, I'd suggest to log your exercises in your fitbit.com dashboard by using the "Create custom activity" option so you can keep tracking your information.

@rocc42, thanks for the heads up! Since the fitbit.com dashboard isn't working well please take a screenshot of that page so I can escalate this to the right team. For instructions to attach it in your reply check this post.

I'll be around looking forward to your reply.

Hello again @Ariesse

I read through some of your other threads and I noticed your from Sweden. (Oh how I wish I could one day see that beautiful place) I’m wondering I’d you go to your online Dashboard and scroll down to the very bottom and you will see you can change it to a different country. Try toggling it to Sweden, let it sync, then toggle it back to English. (or reverse depending how it’s currently set) I have seen toggling it has helped other....it’s certainly worth a shot. 😉 Let me know if that helps.

Hi @LizzyFitbit ,

Here is how it looks when I try to add an excercise manually on the web. It does not seem to matter what I write in the search box. The only results are some of my own custom excercise types.

If I write fitbit.com in a "swedish" browser I will get this.

Edit: I now tested to change my location to United Kingdom, and then the search works. Maybe a clue? 😉

Hi @rocc42 and @SunsetRunner, it's nice to see you again.

@SunsetRunner, thanks for always helping our members. You're great!

@rocc42, thanks for the information and screenshots provided. I'm glad that the search starting working after changing the location.  This is a great advice and I'm sure others will find it very helpful. Just to confirm, is the search function on the Fitbit app also working? If not, please provide me with your iPhone's model and iOS version so I can continue investigating this situation.

Keep me posted.

Hi again @LizzyFitbit

No, it does not work in the app (iPhone SE, iOS 13.1.2, updated app). But I have not changed location/language in my phone. It seems obvious to me that it is something wrong with the Swedish translation/interface. Especially since your website also has problem with that, even on the front page 😉

I have just done the latest iOS update on my phone and now I can’t add an exercise. It doesn’t bring it up when you start typing or when pressing search. Anyone else have this problem or know how to fix it?

I am also encountering this issue. When I search for any activity to manually add, the search is empty. I have force closed the app, logged out and back in again, restarted my Fitbit (inspire HR), restarted my phone (iPhone 8, iOS 13.1.3, updated yesterday). I tried searching activity in the online dashboard and that search is also blank.

There seems to be issues with trying to log exercises. When using the “search” bar to log an activity no results are available, making it impossible to log new activity.

Hi Lizzy, I'm having the same problem as user nSnoek. When I try to add the activity on the app, it comes up with a blank results screen. When I try to add it online, I get the message "Oh no. We cannot find a match for your search," even when I know I've added this same activity before.

Thanks so much!

Erika
