I just got my Fitbit and am trying to set it up with my iPhone but need to update it first and it has been taking forever. How long does it usually take? How do I fix this?

@Shelbywadkins Welcome to the Fitbit Community! It should take around 10 minutes. Is it still stuck in the update? During the update make sure to not navigate away from the Fitbit app screen. If it is try a restart and then try again and if nothing, try to set it up as a replacement device

This is my third attempt to update my FitBit Charge 2 and it has been updating for almost at least 30 minutes this time. It is still updating. Why is it taking so long?

Best Answer

@plangdorf Welcome to the Fitbit family! That could happen because maybe the Internet signal on your phone or Wifi is not very strong. However, it should update accordingly.

Did it finally updated? If it did, how long does it took?

Mine is doing the same thing. It is taking forever to load. Why does it take such a long time?

My Fitbit is taking to long to update. Do I need to leave the app open on my phone or? My internet is fine for downloading so I don't why it is taking so long

Best Answer

I have no idea if it's even updating. In red at the bottom of my iPhone screen, it says "Update Alta HR". So, is that an instruction? I've pressed it, but nothing happens. There's no indication that that the version is updatING. If it's  updating, shouldn't there be some movement on screen suggesting that updating is in progress.

Hello @Penultimate and @GracieG2, have a warm welcome to the Fitbit Community, it's great to have you on board. Smiley Happy

@GracieG2, first of all I would like to apologize for the delay in my response. It's possible for the tracker update to take a bit longer, it will all depend on your WiFi signal, whether or not there are any other Bluetooth devices around and if your tracker is close to your phone. If the update seems to take too long or if it fails, please restart your phone and try the update again.

@Penultimate, when updating, the Fitbit app and the tracker will show a progress bar until the update is complete. If you're able to see a pending update but nothing happens when you tap on it, please force-quit the app, then open the app and try to update again.

I hope this can be helpful, if there's anything else I can do for you, please feel free to reply.

Does this also mean, the phone screen should stay on and not sleep?

I appreciate your participation in the Forums and for posting your question. Please note that while your device your phone's screen doesn't necessarily have to be on, it will still update on the background, just make sure not to close the Fitbit app.

I hope this resolves your inquiry, if there's anything else we can do for you, please feel free to reply.

I’m literally going on day 4 of the most recent update and still haven’t made it past the half way mark.

Yes, the only way you can complete it is stay checking the watch from time to time, do not close the app even is loading slow, you need to keep the watch near from the phone, because it happens just with one update and i had to do it through bluetooth, because though wifi was giving me error connections. After the update has passed you can normally update through wifi, and its going to be less than 10 mins, but i had to deal with that for 2 days

Spoiler
I don't have an answer but I do know I had to leave my house where I know I have a great WiFi and phone signal to come to the library to update my FitBit and its been taking all day. I have been here since 11 am and its now 4:26 pm. Hopefully I don't have to be here until they close which is 9 pm.

It seems that there is a version that has that problem because after 2 days
updating it finished after that update it updates quickly and no problems
at all so, just be patient just keep it charging and near from the wifi
connection because if you lost the connection it will starover again
