This change to Google should never have happened.  The about of steps are consistently wrong. Nothing syncs properly now!!  I wish I could get the old “Fitbit” app back. I’ll probably move to the Apple watch now.

I've had nothing but trouble getting some of my older devices to sync anymore FWIW.

It's incredibly frustrating to say the least!!
