Friend gave me her old Fitbit - says it’s dead when it’s not

My friend gave me her old Fitbit charge hr, since my Fitbit charge broke. She hadn’t used hers in forever. I deleted my charge in the app, and added her charge hr. It said the battery was dead, so I plugged it in and left it. It’s been 24 hours, but it’s still saying the battery is dead, and it just keeps attempting to sync with no avail. If I click the side button on the charge hr, it shows a long rectangle that’s half colored in.

I actually had already tried everything on that post before making my post. I've also tried a couple youtube videos to factory reset. My fitbit has a long rectangle thats half filled in (sometimes an exclamation point happens in the center) No amount of plugging it in and holding the button, holding the button and releasing to press again, or any other advice I've seen so far has made any difference in the screen that shows. It's always the half filled rectangle.

Here's a good thread.

I can’t stress enough that I’ve tried all of this. I’ve turned off my Bluetooth. I’ve pressed buttons and held them until my fingers hurt. I’ve followed along YouTube videos and pressed and released at the same time as the vloggers. I’ve tried to remove the charge hr from Fitbit, but it won’t let me because it says it needs to update.

All I ever see on my screen is a long rectangle half colored in. Sometimes an exclamation point in the middle. I can’t seem to get the version number to show up. The erase screen. Nothing. Just always the rectangle. I’ve tried plugging it into my computer, into different wall sockets, using different bases.... rectangle. I’ve searched the forums and tried everything I’ve come across.

The only reason I even have this Fitbit is because my own got the dreaded bubble, and broke in half, and I don’t want to buy a new one. And this is an hr, which mine wasn’t, and I was really excited to try it.

I haven't tried this, but some have said it has worked in certain situations:
