Hello @SunS and welcome to our community. This issue you are experiencing is very weird. Once you have your friends on your leaderboard you should be able to invite them to participate in challenges. Make sure that your friends are not inactive, for this just scroll down on the screen when you are starting a challenge and you'll see the option "Show Inactive". If this is not the case, make sure that you are running the latest version of the Fitbit app. Recently was released a new version and it may help you to resolve this issue.
If you update the mobile app, it may require a restart:
1. Double tap the home button on your device. Your open apps will show on your device's screen.
2. Close the Fitbit app by swiping the app image in an upward motion.
3. Reopen the Fitbit app.
Note that your friends must have an email address associated with their name in order for them to show in the Fitbit app. The friend finder screen separates contacts in three sections:
1. Contacts on Fitbit--These contacts are already Fitbit.com users, and will have "+" to the right of their names. They will be added to your leaderboard once they accept your friend request.
2. Contacts not yet on Fitbit--These contacts do not currently have an account on Fitbit.com. Tapping "+" asks these contacts to join Fitbit.com and if they accept, adds them to your leaderboard.
3. Friends of Friends on Fitbit-- These users are exactly what the title implies: friends of your friends. If your friend has not privatized their friend list then you will be able to view and add their friends. You can do this by tapping your friend's tile on the friends leaderboard, then tapping the "+" symbol next to their friends.
Hope this helps and see ya around.
