I have both a Surge and Charge HR. For years I could start tracking my run, walk, bike on my phone get the GPS read outs during exercise. Then after exercise sync with either my Surge or ChargeHR and the HR information would be displayed with the activity. Max HR, Avg HR etc.
However, since the last update, the only way to get the HR information attached to an activity is to initiate the exercise from the Surge, use the GPS of the surge. The problem is the Surge battery does not last long enough for me to finish my exercise/race which can take up to 10 hours.
Below are two similar activities one tracking with the Surge and one with just the phone while wearing the Surge. Without this data working correctly this device and app have little value and I've been a strong supporter of FitBit since the clip you attached to your belt.

Hi @wayneramp. Welcome to the Community!
Thanks for sharing detailed information about what is displayed in the Fitbit app, as well for staying with us over the years! It's great to have a Fitbit friend around! I understand how important is to keep all your data recorded correctly and let me share that our team is aware of this situation in which the heart rate isn't recorded for your activities. While there isn't a time frame when this will be fixed, they're currently working to identify a resolution as quickly as possible and my advise is to keep the Fitbit app up-to-date.
I'll be around if you need anything else.
