How to delete steps tracked while driving

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

I am a rural mail carrier and I drive on some very bumpy roads. I sit most of the day but my upper body moves. Between bumps/potholes and my arms moving my fitbit is logging thousands of steps I'm not taking which is of course throwing off my calories burned and movement numbers. I do get out for package delivery but no way I'm getting these daily numbers. What can I do?

Hi @Terrill66  rural mail carriers have a unique job for sure! This is a copied post from a retired Moderator about replacing those steps with an activity. Here is the post:

"There are some cases where the movement patterns around you may show as steps, when your body is not moving. But don't worry! They can easily be negated from your daily log.

To negate steps from your activity log, you can do the following:

  1. Sign into your Dashboard and click the 'Log Activity' icon from the menu at the top of the screen.
  2. Select the date in question.
  3. In the activity menu, type in "Automobile or light truck (not a semi) driving" and enter the time the commuting began and for how and the duration of your ride.
  4. Click "Log Activity." You will see the steps, calories burned, and other data decrease for the time period specified."

I can not figure out how to do that. 😏 I'm not sure where my log activity icon is. When I touch the steps or activity icon it just shows me what I've done.

I'm not sure how many to delete. I've never really known my true steps count. Plus I'm having trouble figuring out how to do it.

Moved this to the iOS area so you can get better responses. I'm an Android user.

Hi @Terrill66, welcome to the Community Forums! Sorry for the delay in responding your post.

I appreciate the details that were shared in your post. Just as previously mentioned, if you would like to delete the steps that were erroneously counted during the time you were driving, you can log the Driving activity in your account to negate approximately the amount of steps that were recorded. To do that on your iPhone 10s Max, please follow the next steps:

  1. Tap the Today tab > On the Exercise tile, tap the + icon > Log or Log Previous.
  2. Choose Driving as the exercise type. Make sure the exercise details overlap with the time period your device logged the unwanted steps or floors.
  3. Tap Add or Log it. Your steps, floors, and calories burned will decrease for the time period you specified.

@Odyssey13 Thanks for bringing this to our attention, your willingness to help here in the Community Forums is always appreciated.

Let me know if you have any additional questions.

So going forward if I start my "driving exercise" when I get to work will it still count actual steps I take while working. Like when I get out for packages? Or will it negate all during the driving period?

I did this and it ADDED 271 steps! After all these years, you'd think Fitbit would figure a way to fix this. I'm sort of mad I bought this. I'm a school bus driver and it's almost a waste of money. I love everything else about it EXCEPT this.
