How to get previous data to load when switching to a new phone?

Traded in my phone and got iPhone 8 plus. When downloading Fitbit app, it will not load the challenge I was previously on or previous steps, friends, sleep, anything. I’ve tried restarting my phone, uninstalling and reinstalling the app, removing and adding the device. Also tried waiting overnight to see if it would appear. How do I get previous information to add with the new download?

I know this sounds obvious, and you've probably already tried it, but make sure you are actually logged in to the app. It has developed a habit of logging people out in a way that you can't immediately tell. If you force close and then reopen the app, does it ask you to log in? What happens if you log out and then log in again?
