Infinite Spinner for GPS Maps

Fitbit Update 9/19/16

This issue has been resolved with the release of iOS App version 2.27. Click here to update your App if you haven't already.

Thanks you for everybody's patience while we worked this one out!

Fitbit Update 8/8/2016

It was recently brought to our attention that some users are seeing an infinite spinner on the iOS App for GPS workouts that are longer than 1.5 hours. This is a known issue that our team is currently working to fix.

As a short-term workaround, you can still see the GPS maps for your longer workouts on your Fitbit.com activity log while a fix is being worked out.

Nope - version 2.27 has not fixed the problem. I still have an infinite spinner for longer exercises. This is not yet resolved.

I have the fitbit 2.28 app for iphone running under ios10.  For longer runs - like the 20 mile or Full Marathon 26.2 the gps map does not load on the phone, so it will not give me the mile breakdown.  However that data is all avail on the web site - so the Surge tracked the run.  Sounds like the issue that was supposed to have been fixed on the 2.27 release of the app.

Hi there @leonnyan and @JKLondon. welcome aboard to our Community @David4412.

Note that it might take time to load all your maps if your exercise history is too extend. But wait for a few seconds and the information will be loading gradually.

You can try with force quitting the app if after waiting the maps are not showing:

1. Log out from your Fitbit account and double tap the home button on your iOS device. Your open apps will show on your device's screen.
2. Close the Fitbit app by swiping the app image in an upward motion.
3. Reopen the Fitbit app and try again. Remember that it will take some time to load this information.

Catch ya later, I'll be around.

Thank you for replying Roberto.

I am not sure how to take your reply, but unfortunately I feel it implies that I haven't taken steps to see if the issue is on my side, or if I didn't wait long enough. Before re-submitting that the issue remained I had tried to wait it out, tried restarting device and app.

But, specifically today, I restarted the app. Since you didn't quantify how long to wait, I did 15 minutes which I think is sufficient to make my point. Attached are three iPhone screen shots - note the clock and the non-loading maps.

I gave up after 15 minutes.

As others have noted the data is available on-line via web app. One image is posted in this thread.

Please do a bit more investigation on your side - the issue remains.

I agree with Leon

I too have taken all reasonable steps but longer exercises still fail to load GPS maps.

Just completed a hike with Garmin equipped friends. They are happily comparing their maps. I have an infinite spinner. Frustrating and certainly not good for the Fitbit brand.

Dear Fitbit,

Please remove (RESOLVED) - this isn't resolved. Still occurs. If no answer soon, I'll kick off another thread and reference this one.

I am running the 2.29 Fitbit app on an iPhone 5 iOS 10.1.1. Sill does not load the map or mileage breakdown for longer runs. The shorter ones work like you would expect.

Hi everybody,

I've unmarked the accepted solution and edited the thread title to not include that the issue resolved. Sorry for the mix up.

Out of curiosity, does your GPS map eventually load if you wait for a bit?

If not, you should still be able to see your longer GPS workouts on your Fitbit.com exercise log if you experience an infinite spinner in the App. I've also re-escalated this to our team to take a second look at this problem.

Also having the same problem. Just completed a full marathon today, and the GPS map is not showing. Already tried all the steps mentioned in this post, still nothing. And no, waiting does not help. The Fitbit website does show the map, so it means that my run was indeed tracked.

Derrick - no the maps don't load if you wait for a bit. I posted earlier a 15 minute wait with time stamps.

Group,

For me the 12/9/2016 2.30 version upgrade of the app fixed the problem(s) I was having.

Is this still an issue as I did a marathon walk yesterday and while my map is shopping if I login online it's not showing in the app on my phone which is disappointing. I just have the grey box with the spinning circle. Is this possible to solve so I can see my walk on my phone? This was a massive achievement for me and a charity walk in memory of my mum so means a lot to me.

thank you

My experience is that it sometimes works but I could never pin down a reliable solution.  If repeatedly fails then my workaround was to export as TCX file from the Fitbit web site then import that TCX into Strava so it's available to view on a phone app. Hope that works for you.

Hi,

I actually have the same issue on my new Versa. I have the infinite spinning circle in my app, but I see the correct map in my online dashboard.

Any help here?

Dear fitbit support team,

I'm really angry... for two years now you are talking about fixing this problem (or even about having fixed it) in MANY, MANY different threads, but I still have this problem.

I bought a new Versa and last week I tracked a cycling activity with a duration of over 6 hours. When I have a look into the iOS app (latest update) I just get the spinning loading sign on the empty map. When I click on the activity I get all the details, but it doesn't show the map.
When I have a look at fitbit.com, I can see the map in the activity overview, but when I click on it, I just get the message "Error.".
(please have a look at the attached screenshots)
(the URL of my acitivity: https://www.fitbit.com/activities/exercise/14339031972)

Could you PLEASE, after all these years now, finally FIX this problem?! You know, it's really exhausting, when you achieve a great goal with your latest, extra long activity and you can't sync it with strava or any other platform, because you can't load the GPS map. These long activities are the most important ones to the people and you really cannot fix this error? I'm in the programmer's branch as well and this really cannot be so hard...

Thank you very much!

Cheers,
Isabella

This issue exists on Android as well.. not just IOS.

Thinking of getting rid of my Fitbit for something else.

Doesnt seem like the Fitbit support team are that fussed about all their disappointed customers.

I agree.. it's really sad, because I loved the device itself. I don't like the style of other sport devices because they're all much too big for my wrists. But as form follows function, we should definitely switch. Since this problem is not the only one I have with the watch it's getting really annoying.

Hello @isssi5 and @seabs, thanks for joining the conversation, it's a pleasure for me to welcome you to the Fitbit Community. Smiley Happy

Thanks for bringing this to my attention. Unfortunately this issue is still affecting the Fitbit app and while our team is still working towards a solution, they still don't have a specific time-frame for when it will be resolved.

I understand your frustration about this situation, and would like to thank you for your patience and understanding. In the meantime, if there's anything else I can do for you, please feel free to reply.
