Inspire HR can't connect to GPS

Hi All, I recently purchased my first Fit Bit - an Inspire HR. Im enjoying it so far but Im having an annoying problem happen. When I try to start an exercise via the Inspire screen (e.g - starting a bike ride) a message comes up on the screen 'connecting to GPS' while it tries to connect to my iPhone. After a few seconds - instead of connecting - a little error comes up on the Inspires screen implying it cant connect to GPS and it says 'Open Fit Bit App'. After I briefly open the Fit Bit app, the Inspire successfully connects to GPS and I can start my exercise.

The first few times I used my Inspire it connected to my phone GPS fine without unlocking my phone or opening the app but the above error seems to happen pretty much every time now. Is this normal? Its quite frustrating as one of the main reasons I got a Fit Bit was so I didnt have to pull out my phone, unlock it and open up an exercise app. Appreciate any help.

Im using iPhone X. iOS 12.4.1. Inspire HR.

Hi @uz3r. Welcome to the Community Forums.

Congrats on your Inspire HR! I'm glad that you're enjoying the experience with it, and thanks for the information provided. I'll help you out with your inquiry. Since your Fitbit devices uses connected GPS, please make sure your location can be tracked when your phone is locked. This can be done by opening Settings > General > Background App Refresh > find the Fitbit app and turn it on.

Note that you'll need to have the Bluetooth on, strong Internet signal (Cellular Data) and the location services set to either While Using the App or Always during your bike ride.

Give it a try and let me know how it goes.

Hi There, thanks for the response.

Location Services for was already set to ‘Always’ for the Fit Bit app?

Is there something wrong with my particular Fitbit?

Hi @uz3r. Thanks for getting back.

Thanks for verifying that the location services are set to Always in your iPhone. Given the message that you received, please confirm if you've also made sure the location can be tracked when your phone is locked? If not, please make sure of that with the steps posted above, and try restarting your Inspire HR and rebooting your phone.

Keep me posted!
