Intermittent sync issues on iOS device

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

Using Fitbit App on iOS 13.5 (don't know what version of Fitbit app - don't know where to look but I've deleted and re-added multiple times - so, whatever the current version is in AppStore).

On the iOS device ONLY, I frequently cannot sync (continuous "looking").  When I try manual sync, I get "device not found".  Have deleted and re-added app, have powered off and powered on iOS device with no change.  Eventually, the Fitbit app on iOS syncs but with no rhyme or reason what changed and no way to know if it'll be a few minutes or a few hours.  The only frequently mentioned correction step I have not tried is "turn off all nearby bluetooth devices" - not sure who came up with that advice but they clearly have not been in a modern home (bluetooth remotes, bluetooth hubs, etc.).  During this period, I can sync from my laptop with 100% success but I need to sync the iOS device so MyFitnessPal will sync up and set steps/calorie count correctly.

Any guidance or input on how syncing with iOS can be more reliable is appreciated as this problem is maddening and frankly makes the fitbit much less useful.

Thanks

Not yet. But I just posted this.

Same issue here. Started after updating the Versa. In fact the track record is that every time I update my Fitbit (tracker or iOs app), there is some issue afterwards. Appalling company in terms of software quality. This will be my last Fitbit. Going to Apple or Garmin.

Oh, forgot to add. This is my third Fitbit Versa. All had issues but were replaced on warranty.

For those following this post - no solution yet... tried chatting with Fitbit support and I was number 61 in the queue.  Gave up after 30 minutes.  Maybe I'll try at a different time of day and see what's up.

Hello all, thank you for your participation in the forums and sharing the difficulty you're experiencing with syncing to iOS devices.

I appreciate the time that each of you took to share the details of the issue, the troubleshooting done and your experiences. I understand that this can be very frustrating and appreciate your feedback. I would like to advise that this issue has been reported to our team and we're working to identify a resolution as quickly as possible. Be sure to keep the Fitbit app and your devices up-to-date as the updates come with new features and bug fixes.

Meanwhile, I recommend trying the following:

  1. Go into your phone's Bluetooth menu.
  2. Tap on the icon next to your Fitbit device.
  3. Press Forget this device.
  4. Re-open the Fitbit app and re-bond your device.

For complete troubleshooting instructions see Why won't my Fitbit device sync?

I'll be around if you have any questions.

Please be aware. When this happens for me, my iPhone does not show as connected to my Fitbit and hence cannot be forgotten. It would be great if you could get the symptoms clear and stop suggesting actions that do not apply to this particular problem

Hi @BLG56. I'm glad to see you here again.

Thanks for taking the time to review the steps posted above. I see where you're coming from and I'm sorry for the inconvenience. As mentioned above, our team has been informed about the syncing issues experienced after updating to iOS 13.4.1 and above, and they're currently working on this situation. Since your Fitbit has been forgotten from the Bluetooth settings, let me suggest to try these other steps:

  1. Please check if the Fitbit app is updated to the new version released.
  2. Turn off the Bluetooth from other phones, tablets or computers nearby. This is to prevent your Fitbit device from trying to connect to those devices instead of your iOS device.
  3. Open the Fitbit app in your iOS device and pull down on the screen to force a manual sync.
  4. A Bluetooth pair authorization should appear, tap pair. This will re-establish the Bluetooth connection between your Fitbit device and the Fitbit app.

Please keep me posted.

Hi Lizzy,  I'm not sure you read my post thoroughly given your recommendations.

For others tracking this post... something updated in the past few days and it appears the FitBit iOS app is syncing (taking a very long time but syncing).  Still determining if all is working correctly but definitely better than it was when I first posted this.

NOTE: I did NOT do any updates or any of the suggested actions from "LizzyFitBit".  As I had mentioned in my original post, I had tried ALL the corrective actions except turning off bluetooth devices.... my home is FULL of bluetooth devices many of which cannot be turned off (e.g. Harmony Hub) - given my laptop was syncing with the Inspire HR with no problems, it clearly was not the problem.  My suspicion is that some fix or update has been pushed to the iOS app in the past week and things are better.

Thanks

I had the same issues but found a way to work around it - i had to close the app and reopen it before it will synch. Not sure if I’m explaining this clear - but basically I swiped off all apps and retap the app.

see if that helps.

it’s not a long term solution for sure, but at least the data is synched.

Thanks - yes, tried that and did not work.  To clarify, the iOS app
appears to have been updated in the last few days and the Insprire IS
syncing now.

Hi @BLG56 and @Sinajana. Welcome to the Community Forums. I'm sorry for the delayed response.

Thanks for keeping me updated, as well for sharing the steps that worked for you. The steps from my post were shared just to confirm that they were exhausted as when there are many mobile devices nearby, meaning computers, phones or tablets, your Fitbit device might get confused when trying to sync. I appreciate your efforts and I'm glad that your Fitbit devices are now syncing with the Fitbit app. If you need anything else, don't hesitate to let me know.

See you around.
