Update 7/19/2018: This issue is now resolved, please ensure your app is updated if you still experiencing this issue. We appreciate everyone's patience and cooperation as we worked on a fix. I'll be closing this for further reports. If you are experiencing any new issues with food logging, please start a new thread.
Update 7/18/2018: Thanks again everyone for your reports. Glad to hear the update has corrected food logging issues for many.
If you are still experiencing this issue, we would love to investigate further. The following would help our team review:
We appreciate the additional details.
Fitbit Update 07/16/2018: Hey everyone -- We have just released an update to the Fitbit app for iOS, version 2.53.1 which we believe resolves the issues with food logging that have been reported in this thread. Please update to 2.53.1 and let me know of the results so I can quickly communicate that to our iOS team.
Again, thank you for your continued patience as we worked to get this resolved ASAP.
Update 7/15/2018:
Thanks everyone for your patience on this. We sincerely apologize to anyone who has been affected by this issue and have been working hard to find a fix. We are preparing to roll out an update tomorrow, July 16th to solve the problem. In the meantime, customers can use the food logging feature in the web dashboard: https://www.fitbit.com/foods/log.
Update 7/14/2018: We do realize this is a critical issue and our team continues to work on the cause and a fix. We don't provide timelines, in case something occurs and it can't be met, but we hope to have a resolution soon. Thank you again for your patience, reports, and cooperation.
Update 7/13/2018: Hi Everyone - we definitely do hear your reports and frustration on missing and strange food logs. Our engineers are still investigating and I hope to have a resolution shortly.
While not ideal, you can log on Fitbit.com food log and it will populate on iOS correctly once you sync. You can log it here. We appreciate your cooperation. I'll continue to update this thread as I hear more.
Update 7/12/2018: Hi Everyone - thanks again for your reports. We are actively reviewing this issue and I'll continue to update the thread as I hear further. As a workaround you may want to log your food through https://www.fitbit.com/foods/log. As mentioned in @sreid64's post, it will populate the iOS app correctly. Thanks again for your patience and reports.
Update 7/11/2018: Hi Everyone - I've merged a few posts together. We are currently investigating issues with food logging on iOS version 2.53. Please continue to monitor this thread for updates. If this is severely affecting your food logging, you may want to log through Fitbit.com. Thank you very much for your reports and patience as we review.

There is a bug at the moment with food logging. Keep an eye on the following thread which has the latest updates from fitbit:
https://community.fitbit.com/t5/iOS-App/Issues-with-food-input-on-iOS-2-53/td-p/2825777
As a temporary solution you can log food via fitbit.com

WOW! That was fast. Thank you. I will check it out!

Fitbit.com isn’t really a practical alternative when you are using an iPhone to log on the go. The app needs to be sorted ASAP

"we recommend iOS users log food via the fitbit.com dashboard" - BHAHAHAHAHA! Have you tried using your own webpage, Fitbit? I mean, rhetorical question, because you clearly haven't, else you'd know what an utter joke this is. Just try searching for butter, for example. Go on. Can you add it? Nope, because butter isn't included in the truncated drop-down list, just lots of foods with butter in the name. Same problem with most 'single' foods.
This apart from the problems of having to log everything on a laptop in the first place.
I am so sick of Fitbit. The Ionic is a fragile and flaky piece of grossly overpriced rubbish. I dearly wish I'd stumped up the extra cash and bought an Apple watch. And guess what, Fitbit? That's what exactly what I will be doing as soon as I can afford it.

Trying to log the food at Fitbit.com isn't working either. It will let me add a couple of food items for a particular day, and then won't let me add on any more. When I click on a food item in the list on the right, nothing happens. This is really frustrating (as I'm sure you're aware). When I try to add food from the app, it immediately deletes it. Interestingly, it also says I've eaten nothing but waffle cones for the last couple of days. Sadly, that is not true.

I would like to say that this iOS issue dealing takes very long. I'm as frustrated as everyone in the world now. Please hurry up and fix this issue. I believe once everything dealt with, it would be forgiven. Anyway, for the update, I tried using fitbit app for windows 10 and it worked wonderfully. Logging food via fitbit for windows 10 actually sync with the food log on iOS app. I still think it is very inconvenient tho.
I noticed that fitbit app for windows 10 arranges items in food log quite wonderfully. Hope the fixed iOS would have the same sorting.
Don't give up and hurry up

I’m using my linked My Fitness Pal. I can log there and it seems to me totalling in my Fitbit app OK. They really need to hurry and fix this or MFP will be my new go to for logging.

i just realized that it’s not just the food logging that’s gone haywire it seems that most of the app is randomly doing weird stuff, exercise, food, etc.
for or those like me who rely on Fitbit to tell me how much I should eat this is really dangerous! If it’s basing my calories on exercising I’ve not done then I could quickly get into trouble.
This is not a minor issue, people are relying on you for their health. Please understand this is SERIOUS. Don’t think you can take your time or take this lightly.

My Fitbit App just started deleting food items as I would enter more. It would also change the food item to whatever. Example Venison Sausage would become Salsa. It’s messed up for sure.

Hi, I bought the FitBit charge 2 last week and was thrilled with it until Wednesday of this week, when it does not record weekly exercise, nor does it retain food entered. When the whole purpose of this item is to track intake and output of energy, these failings are unacceptable and should have been rectified sooner than this. Neither function is working. Please advise on the way forward.

Having the same issue. My app updated yesterday, 7/12/18, and yesterday evening I was entering my dinner and evening snack and only two of the five items took. The other three items just disappeared. This morning, I just entered my breakfast and the same issue. Some of the items are taking, the other items are coming up as completely different items.

Mine had been working up until the app update. Never had any issues. According What I have read for right now one can go thru the FitBit Dashboard which totally eliminates the convenience factor. I feel your pain.
