Manual treadmill distance input

I have the new Fitbit ionic and when I run on the treadmill the distance is wrong. I keep the same cadence pretty much no matter what speed I’m going so having it use a set distance is misleading for my actual distance, but even though I have the distance correct from the treadmill, the app won’t let me change the distance to be correct. It’s not a huge deal, because I don’t really count treadmill running miles as being true to running outside, but I was wondering if there’s a way to change that. I’m doing a manual exercise start. From what I’m seeing it’s an old problem of not being able to change the miles, which being Fitbit and the steps are what is mostly counted, it shouldn’t be an issue to let us make that change. I guess they might be worried people might make it look like they are running more than what is reported,  but if you make it so you can’t change the steps I don’t see why we aren’t able to change the miles. Is there a way I can do a treadmill run and edit the miles later after I am finished?

Distance on treadmill is calculated as  number of steps times stride length.

 

If you are holding hand rail with Fitbit hand, your probably will not get steps detected because arm is not moving. This would decrease your steps, and therefore distance.

 

If your steps are correct, then your stride length must be off.

Note there are separate stride lengths for walking and running.

 

I don't know about editing the distance, but if the steps are correct, having to edit the distance would mean your stride length is off so that should be corrected.

@Creamcheese742 to add to @JohnnyRow's answer I first suggest confirming that the step count is correctly recorded. Once this has been confirmed it is an easy step to set the stride correctly.

My stride length changes as I run because I keep my cadence the same. I slow down and speed up by adjusting my stride length. I try to stay around 170-180 steps per minute. My step count is accurate, I don't hold onto the hand rails.

As a person changed their speed, their stride will change simply because the faster a person runs the further out they have to plant their for to keep from falling.

 

I did a set know distance course on 5 days, then used the average to determine an average stride.

I think @Creamcheese742 understands and accepts all about stride, but was just wishing he could correct the distance afterward.

I understand that but currently you or I are unable to help with editing distance, something I've been told it's possible under iOS but have not been able to confirm our deny.

The best I could do is explain what I did and it gets my distance close enough.

Correct. I could do my average stride or have it do it for me automatically when I run outside, but sometimes I can run farther at my higher speeds, or if I'm more tired my hr goes up quicker and I end up running more at a lower speed and it throws it all off. I guess this was more just a way to let them know it would be nice to be able to edit that. I know one of their badges is for miles and maybe that's why they don't allow it, but currently I'm getting way more miles than I should. I did 7 miles on the treadmill and it logged me in at doing 13 miles that day. Some of that is from my ordinary walking at my job, but it's off by like 2 miles.
