MobileTrack no longer syncing

When I began with the Fitbit mobile app, the iOS MobileTrack tracking seemed to work quite well.

Then I added a `Charge 2`, and the app seemed to intelligently use the Fitbit device, when available, but fill in missing periods (as when I'd left my watch behind) with iPhone data.

Recently, this seems to have broken. It might have been when I went to a `Charge 3`, but I think it was flaky even before that.

Now, it seems to only take one or the other – never a mix of both. When adding MobileTrack, it shows 'Syncing...' – and then (might) show a tally that seems phone-derived. But then the account device list entry for 'MobileTrack' shows "Not synced yet". And, the button in the 'MobileTrack' detail screen for 'sync now' seems disabled and does nothing when pressed. And, as soon as any sync with the watch happens, it now seems to clobber, rather than merge with, the phone-derived count.

Is this a known set of iOS-app/charge-3 regressions for something that used to work smoothly?

Is there a reset or permissions problem on my setup that there's a chance I could fix, and restore the old better behavior?

MobileTrack was essential to getting me started with Fitbit, and I've often recommended it to people as a way to try the app, or as a way to cover for times when their Fitbit device was misplaced/uncharged/etc. If it's now a quasi-orphaned & unmaintained feature, that's a real loss for my uses.

Hi @gojomo. It's nice to see you around!

Thanks for detailed information about this situation. I'm glad to hear that you've enjoyed the experience with both, the MobileTrack and your device, and I'm sorry about this inconvenience. I appreciate your feedback towards this feature, and be sure that Fitbit keeps supporting it. Since MobileTrack isn't syncing, I'd recommend to try the following steps:

  1. Remove the MobileTrack from your account.
  2. Force quit the Fitbit app. For instructions see the Apple help article.
  3. Make sure the Fitbit app is updated to the latest version.
  4. Open the Fitbit app and tap the Account icon.
  5. Tap on the option to setup a device and add MobileTrack to your account.

Give it a try and let me know how it goes.

No number of remove/re-enable `MobileTrack` operations, or app quits or phone restarts, has restored the previous (Charge 2-era) smooth, reliable merging of info from either the watch or phone. Instead, tallies seem to flop back-and-forth between the two. AFAICT, it was a great feature, now decayed to uselessness.
