New Fitbit app design

I hate this new app layout.

The app change is 100% making me consider getting rid of a Fitbit and go to Apple Watch.

I hate the look everything.

I hate the new way it displays my sleep.

It was so nice looking at the home of the app and now I don’t even want to open the app.

@Mellabella A warm welcome to our Community!

Thank you for your feedback regarding the new app design. You can share your input and positive ideas in our Feature Suggestions board. Search for the idea first to see if one already exist so you can add your vote. The more votes an idea gets the more likely the developers will try to implement it.

Let me know how it goes.

I absolutely hate it too. The first thing I want to see is how many steps I have done so far. This layout does not work for me at all.

Hi Mirabella..

I can't stand the look and feel or usability of the new app - I think it is just awful.

Is there any way that one can opt to keep the old app layout ?

Best Answer

Is there a proper introduction to this "new design"? I got the prompt today and am saying no for several reasons:

1) There is no going back. So I have to blindly opt in and then if I don't like it I can't go back? Hard pass.

2) Fitbit's own page on the subject is mostly text telling me how to do things but doesn't show me enough screenshots to know what to really expect: https://help.fitbit.com/articles/en_US/Help_article/2435

3) In the years I've been using the Fitbit app there have been no real usability improvements. And while I've gotten used to it in the current state of the app, a complete overhaul promises to bring about new "weirdness" I will be forced to adapt to. Take time zone management, where you have to scroll through a list ordered by region & city until you find the location you want. There is no search and so switching between various time zones often requires tons of scrolling instead of being able to type a few letters and have it filter down the list automatically like in the core iOS settings.

Sorry for the rant on #3, but I think their choice here speaks volumes on what to expect by a complete app overhaul. But really, #1 is the main one. If you want folks to opt-in to something and give feedback ... you have to provide them a way to opt-back out in case they don't like it.

@Mellabella, @Cinang, @margtd: If you or anyone else in this thread could provide more screenshots so others might know what they'd be getting into that would be helpful.

I also chose "Not Now" to opt out of the change and I have not updated the Fitbit app since 2.95 because all the updates so far did not provide the fix to erroneous and erratic floor counts.  Not to mention all the horror stories of updates bricking the tracker e.g. sync, battery, blank screen etc.  I can live without these hassles.

As far as I know the new app dashboard cannot be rolled back.  I think Fitbit is too committed at this point to abort the rollout.  If Fitbit has paid any heed to the negative feedback they would have already halted the trial.  So this is the real thing, it is not a trial.  I cannot see Fitbit spending the resources to maintain 2 different dashboards in the long run.

So users really have only 2 choices: learn to get used to it or move on to something different altogether.  Or maybe a third choice: use the web dashboard instead of the app dashboard.

I know there are many many users hated the new experience, with good reasons.  But Fitbit have sold millions of devices, the number of threads voicing opposition in the iOS and Android forums combined is only a handful compared to the majority out there either welcoming or accepting the change.  Indeed, believe it or not, there ARE threads requesting for the new dashboard and are wondering why theirs have not been updated!  And those users who are already happy with the changes seldom will post to these forums anyway.

I am not saying resistance is futile, but there are a few other options as I mentioned earlier on.  I too will have to make a decision when the time comes.

I am glad I did not opt for the new App Layout. I've been very disappointed with the most recent trackers- especially the Ionic. The color on the website and box are very misleading for the Charcoal model- it is silver. The Fitbit App has always been the best and it has been the single feature that has kept me with Fitbit- I have owned every tracker since the Fitbit One. I am not purchasing anymore trackers until I am forced to convert to the new app. Once I do, I will change very quickly if it is as bad as everyone says.

I have submitted my opinion to Fitbit multiple times and always get the canned answer- "we will forward your opinion...." I see lots of customers voicing the same opinions yet Fitbit fails to listen to their customers. Every Christmas I contact the online store to see if they can ship my order via Priority Mail instead of FedEx Smartpost (I have an APO box and Smartpost takes over 2 months vs 2 weeks for Priority Mail) and every year I am assured it will be sent Priority Mail. Yet every year it is sent FedEx Smartpost and when I follow-up with a call to customer service I am informed they will have the issue fixed before I order again...it has been over 3 years now

Fitbit has no concern for customer input. Not sure why I am even wasting my time typing this.

I’m not. I’ve already declined once. I’m already shopping new apps/trackers. Been a customer since Fitbit One- I’m done. Been flat-out lied to by sales staff more than once.

I hate the new design. I absolutely hate it. I use the alarm function as my only alarm for waking and now it is buried inside the app. There is no search function, so I couldn’t find it. The alarms aren’t going off at the time I’ve set. Is that an issue with different time zones? If the app can’t keep track of time zones then I will have to leave Fitbit for something else. I travel extensively, and need smooth transitions between time zones.

Does anyone know how I can go back to an older version? I don’t know how it even updated. One day I woke up and it is different. Did I mention I hate it?

The best thing you can do is look at other options. I’m switching to AppleWatch. I’ll not waste another minute of my short time on this planet repeating myself to these idiots.

If they had listened to their customers, Fitbit would be blue chip stock. Instead, they outsource customer service to 3rd World countries. Had my fill of calling the Philippines

+1 on absolutely hating it!

Fitbit:  please enable a "Classic" option so we can roll back to the previous UI.

I did NOT opt in to the new UI, and was happy for a while.  Then one day the app randomly switched to the new UI without prompting or notification.  Now I’m stuck with the horrible new version and questioning whether I’ll continue to use FitBit or simply return to an Apple Watch.

Spot on - we want old UI back!

Unfortunately you can't, we're all stuck with it! Until we all stop using Fitbit, might have to go for an apple watch or a next or a full on Garmin

I updated my iOS app today and unfortunately had this garbage foisted upon me. The "advertisements" for Premium at the top are terrible and you can't get rid of them.

Please fix new app design. The original was better. I want to open my app and see the heart rate with my activity and click on challenges at bottom of screen. Go back. Stupid and unnecessary  changes. Agree with this person. Makes me ready to change.
