It really is upsetting that it is not possible to provide an update that allows the fit bit surge to provide more detailed sleep data.
Regardless of the surge being “not very popular” there is still a lot of users who spent extremely good money on purchasing a surge as it was a top of the line model.
Surely there is a person working within Fitbit who is able to take already prepared updates for other models and migrate the computer coding to be able to allow the Fitbit Surge to track more detailed sleep data.
As another user stated in a previous explores post I read about this, I too am thoroughly disappointed in this.
Why would you completely disregard a whole section of the fit bit community?

@Konlow26 I did a little searching and found this explanation for the Surge and sleep stages. Someone said that the optical heart rate sensor in the Surge doesn't have the capability to do the more detailed HRV analysis to get sleep stages. If correct, then it is a hardware thing, not a software thing.
Sadly, updates tend to stop once a device has been discontinued. The Surge forum isn't monitored by moderators anymore.

I found an explanation by a fit bit moderator describing that the problem was the popularity of the surge. Not that it was a hardware issue....
