Fitbit Update 5/22/2019:

Hey all,

Today we've released the latest Fitbit for iOS app version 2.94. In this new app version, we've temporarily disabled this notification "Open Fitbit to keep your data synchronized." We will continue to assess all the user feedback and work to improve this experience.

Please update the Fitbit app if you haven't yet. I'm now closing this thread from further comments. Thanks again for all your feedback!

Fitbit Update 5/13/2019:

Hi Everyone- Based on customer feedback, we are working on an update to the notification and hope to have further information to share soon. We appreciate your patience and thank you for your feedback.

Fitbit Update 4/18/2019:

I've merged a few threads together. Receiving the notification "Open Fitbit to keep your data synchronized" after closing out of the Fitbit app is expected behavior. The Fitbit app needs to run in the background in order to enable features like all-day sync and notifications. If you are double tapping the home button, or swiping up into multi-tasking, and then swiping to close the app, you should see this message.

I appreciate your feedback and have passed it on to the team. I hear that you are unhappy with this notification. Our team is aware, but may not be able to provide a fix in the immediate future.

We'll continue to monitor the situation, and keep our team informed of the impact to you and other customers. We understand that this isn't the resolution you're hoping for, but rest assured we're always working to improve our products. We're sorry for any trouble.

Ill considered features like this, that are not customer-focused, suggest that the dev team need to get out of their office and spend more time with customers. I’m just going to turn off all fitbit app notifications until it is resolved... if other people start to do the same then maybe the issue will be given the priority it deserves.

I get what you are saying about why and  not being able to fix this soon, but please understand what functions this eliminates for all of us who hate this notification after we close the app - we turn off notifications to stop it and therefore lose all notifications.    No cheers or taunts, no message notifications, no almost there only X steps left.   Thus the community function and our people we are connected to with our leader board and groups- we are NO Longer Connected.  Please fix this sooner rather than later so we can turn notifications back on.  Also, many of us use our phones for work and keeping the fitbit app open drains the battery faster especially for someone like me with an older model iPhone.   Please escalate this issue.

It didnt do this before.  This just drives us all to turn off all notifications which reduces the functionality of the app.   I would rather have to force synch when i open the app than lose functionality by disabling all notifications.   Again-  it didnt do this before.   please  have the team find a fix for this quickly.   Even if they make a this notification a second notification on/off button in settings.    THEre is always a way!   This is a definite negative for fitbit and I have been a user since the early test groups-  had my first one from the presale group of the original fitbit. I love the product but this is not a good feature and is annoying.

Hi there @acook227@JulieVW@tmarchetta@Hlkleinberg, @SunsetRunner, @Dejefer and @Liftpgh have a warm welcome to the Fitbit Community. I hope you're doing well @lcynicl@Stoz@MarkH86@Sdesjardins@defdog99 and @SunsetRunner.

We really appreciate our members's input and feedback and I would like to thank you for yours. I know you find this message intrusive and our team is already aware of this, as many people have expressed their feedback. However, they may not be able to provide a fix in the immediate future.

Note that All-day Sync has been tested and confirmed to not drain the battery on your phone or device faster than usual.

Thanks for your report, we'll continue to monitor the situation, and keep our team informed of the impact to you and other customers. We understand that this isn't the resolution you're hoping for, but rest assured we're always working to improve our products.

We're sorry for any trouble, have a nice day.

Honestly this is even more annoying.

I was mildly annoyed with the notification, not because it drains battery
life or anything like this, but because it goes against the way I use my
smartphone which is something that Fitbit as an activity tracker should not
meddle or interfere with. This was already not a great reflection and
Fitbit and the way it relates to its user experience.

Now I see countless people raising the same issue and the only thing Fitbit
customer care and community animators tell us is « believe us it’s better
for you, change to match our product and app as we will not evolve it for
you ».
I hope you see how you are alienating your users and at this point. I was
happy to endure the notification while your technical teams found a way to
fix this. But based on what the community moderators are saying, you just
don’t give a crap and expect us to adjust to a silly notification that no
one wants!
At this point, I am considering changing to a product where my feedback
will actually be heard and valued rather than shut down - please advise...
fast!

Hey all. This issue while annoying is not a major problem in life. Health, finances, cancer, chronic illness, loss of job - those are real issues. In reality- This is an annoyance to all of is. We need to report what the problem to us and why. Yes, the answers are not what we want to hear, but it is the answer and they at least replied. The customer service people are not coders and are just doing their job and relaying the info they are given to us.

I don’t have anything to add that hasn’t already been posted multiple times, only adding one more voice to the chorus of the annoyed. Just goes to prove devs aren’t real people (inside family joke).  Cheers everyone.

This started happening to me today without any warning. I updated the app to version 2.92 on April 16th, and now it’s April 25th. I’ve been getting notifications everyday completely fine with the app completely closed and not running in the background at all. I also have all-day sync turned off. Now I just get pissed off every time I need to close the app because one way that my OCD manifests is through having to close all of my apps completely.

Fitbit has never needed to be running before this update in order to get notifications.

Saying that you won’t be able to change it in the near future is simply because you’re choosing not to. You should listen to everyone who uses the app.

You need to get rid of this feature. No one asked for it, nor do we want it.

Thank you! (specifically to hippychick1501, who posted a solution)

I'm also turning off all notification because of this.  Please email me when you've removed the notification when I close the app.

I do not like to keep apps running on my phone. I will never leave fitbit open just so it can sync. When I'm ready to sync fitbit, which I do frequently, I will do it. The notification telling me to keep the fitbit app open is presumptive and annoying.

Since I can't turn that specific notification off, my only option is to turn off all notifications but then I may miss notifications from the fitbit community. The community is THE REASON I have the fitbit and not some other step tracker.

Would you please put in a fix to remove the message?

Fitbit is supposed to enhance my lifestyle not control it.

I don't want stalker Fitbit to be tracking me!!  😝

When I get this message I turn of the notifications to Fitbit for 10 seconds. Then turn them back on.  The message is usually gone.  Sometimes I have to do it twice.  Unfortunately you have to do it every time you open Fitbit.  How annoying.

Please remove this annoying alert... I’m aware they won’t sync until I open the app back up... I’m also aware constant syncing drains the battery, so this is a conscious choice. At the very least, please make it an optional notification we can turn on/off as desired. Thanks!

I think it’s safe to say they acquire the data in order to assess how their customers use their devices in order to bring new features and bug fixes among other things. I agree it is annoying but at the end of the day in my opinion it’s nothing to be in here bashing them about. Just disable the notifications for the time being if it truly irritates you that much. No need to breed stress and negativity, hope everyone has a great day.

You can turn off your notifications on your phone from Fitbit and it won’t show up.
