Hi,
Ive recently bought a Versa. I logged my first run with it yesterday, but it does not show a map of where I ran on my phone app. It shows all other stats fine. Before I bought the Versa I logged a few runs on the phone app and they all had maps showing. Can anyone help???
I have an iPhone 7 if that helps?!

Hello @Jodiemars, thanks for joining the Fitbit Community, it's great to have you on board.
Thanks for bringing this situation to my attention. Tell me, have you started the Run activity from your Versa using the Exercise app or is the Versa auto-detecting the activity with SmartTrack? If you're using connected GPS and the Exercise app, please make sure to follow these steps to record your map:
- On your watch, open the Exercise app.
- Swipe to find the exercise of your choice.
- Tap the exercise to select it. You’ll see the Let’s Go! screen. If you chose a GPS exercise, you’ll see a satellite icon in the top left as your watch tries to connect to a GPS signal (using the built-in GPS on Fitbit Ionic and connected GPS on Fitbit Versa). When your watch says “connected” and the watch vibrates, GPS is connected.
If your Versa is not connecting when starting the activity, please check the following requirements:
- Bluetooth is enabled on your phone and your watch is connected (paired) to the phone. To confirm, go into your phone's Bluetooth settings and make sure you see Versa on the list of devices.
- You selected an exercise type from the Exercise menu that uses connected GPS. To check, tap the gear icon on any exercise and check that GPS is listed and set to On.
- Your phone is within about 30 feet of your tracker.
- Your phone can identify your location and can track your location when you're not using Wi-Fi. For more information on which phone settings you may need to adjust, see How do I use exercise apps and modes on my Fitbit device?
After verifying all the requirements, try using GPS again by following the instructions provided above. If you're still having difficulty, try these troubleshooting steps:
- Open the Fitbit app to reestablish a connection with your tracker.
- Reboot your mobile device.
I hope this can be helpful, give it a try and keep me posted in case you need anything else.

Hello @Coopercheryl, thanks for joining the conversation, it's a pleasure for me to welcome you to the Fitbit Community. It's nice to see you too @Jodiemars, thanks for taking the time to reply.
@Jodiemars, I appreciate you have come back and let me know your issue has now been resolved, I'm very glad!
@Coopercheryl, If your Versa is not recording the maps of your connected GPS activities, please check the requirements described in my previous post. If everything seems correct, please go to your phone Settings > Fitbit and make sure the following is enabled:
- Cellular Data
- Background App Refresh.
Additionally, when starting a connected GPS activity, make sure "connected" appears on the screen of your Versa before starting the activity. Also, turn off WiFi to prevent the Versa from trying to connect to a WiFi Network, which might also interfere when trying to record the path of your activity.
I hope this can be helpful, give it a try and let me know the outcome!

Thanks for this information. When the Versa is connected to your phone and using it for GPS, does that use up a lot of your phones data?

does the fitbit versa have to be paired with your phone whenever you want to map a run? or can it do the mapping without a phone connection?

Hello @isaac713 and @Squisscheese, thanks for joining the Fitbit Community, it's great to have you on board.
I appreciate your participation in the Forums and for having posted your questions. @Squisscheese, GPS does not consume your phone's data to record a map. However, you will need data when syncing the activity to the Fitbit app.
@isaac713, the Versa uses connected GPS, which means that if you want to record your map, you will need to have your phone nearby. At this moment the only devices that don't need a phone nearby are the Surge and Ionic as they have integrated GPS.
I hope this resolves your inquiries, if there's anything else we can do for you, please feel free to reply.

okay, that's what I thought, do you think there will eventually be an update to the Versa, regarding GPS improvement?

Hello @isaac713, I hope you're doing well, thanks for taking the time to reply.
I appreciate you have come back and posted your question. Please note that the Versa's hardware does not include integrated GPS unlike the Ionic or Surge, which means that it will always need to connect with your phone in order to record an activity map, even if the firmware gets constant updates.
I hope this resolves your inquiry, if you're having trouble with connected GPS, please let us know so we can check this further.
Happy stepping!

Hi, I went for a run a few days ago with a versa only, no phone with me.
The watch tracked the run via GPS, but hasn't saved the map anywhere. How does having the phone with me make a difference as surely it should be recording where I go as I go?
Otherwise, what is the point of having the gps in the watch if it won't work without the phone connected?

Hello @Deano_m86, thanks for joining the conversation, it's always great to welcome new members to the Fitbit Community.
Thanks for participating in the Forums and for sharing your experience. Please note that the Versa does not have integrated GPS (like the Ionic or Surge) therefore, it needs to connect with the GPS on your phone to record a map of your activity. If you don't have your phone with you at the moment of the activity, the activity and all the data, except for the map, will be recorded.
I hope this resolves your inquiry, if there's anything else we can do for you, please feel free to reply.

OMGOODNESS - Versa tracker has to have a GPS PHONE with bluetooth to track / map a run / ride etc? ... Why have the versa. ... just run Strava app on phone. ... I replaced a fitbit2 that had ZERO issues, mapped geo and more with the Versa and have returned Versa for a new and deleted apps, accounts, reset, bluetooth on off on off on off, hours on this forum and downloaded more 'updates' etc etc etc. I do now run with my 'phone' with Strava to actually get the 4.5 - 8 miles well measure courses that I do. Versa and its placement Versa have NEVER been correct. I already gave my FitBit2 away or I'd wear it or my Garmin runner. Reading this it sounds like you have to carry a bluetooth GPS device for the Versa to use to track a run ? ! ARE YOU KIDDING ME?

Hi there,
Does this mean you have to take your phone with you for your run route to be recorded?
Also, despite changing the units on my Fitbit mobile app to miles rather than km, the watch is prompting me in km when I’m running (e.g. telling me when I’ve done 1km). How do I fix this so all my notifications and pace etc relate to miles?
Many thanks,
Carolyn

Hi there
I took my Ionic back John Lewis as it had gone totally blank and would not charge.
The sales staff told me Fitbit was no longer making the Ionic and the replacement was Versa 2.
I then was given the replacement and have only just found out that this “ replacement “ doesn’t have a built in GPS.
Im very unhappy with this as I don’t want to carry a phone on my runs.
Firstly:Can you please advise if another Fitbit will be available with a built in GPS ?
Secondly: Can I exchange for the new device.
I feel I’ve been misled by both Fitbit and John Lewis as the Versa 2 is obviously not a genuine replacement for the Ionic.
Regards
Mark
