Sleep stages not showing up in app (Charge 3)

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

I use my charge 3 to track my sleep at night, only it’s not showing any sleep stages in the Fitbit app (REM, light, deep). I am currently using  an iPhone 6.

Does anybody know whats the cause and how to fix it? Thanks!

Hello @Kevin97, thanks for joining the Fitbit Community, it's great to have you on board. Smiley Happy

I appreciate your participation in the Forums and for sharing your experience with us. Please note that the Fitbit app currently has in-app error notifications that provide an explanation for why you aren't receiving Sleep Stages on any given night. This is meant to provide insight into what might be occurring to cause this. The error messages are the following:

  1. We need more than 3 hours of sleep to reliably calculate your sleep stages. Learn more
  2. Your tracker couldn't get a consistent heart rate reading while you slept. Learn more
  3. We couldn’t generate sleep stages for this sleep. Please try again tomorrow. Learn more

When you tap on Learn more, you will be able to get more information about why your tracker didn't record sleep stages. Additionally, I'd like to suggest the following:

  • For any of the nights you were expecting to see Sleep Stages, did you ever click on the "Begin Sleep Now" or "Add Sleep Log" functions within the Fitbit App?
    • This is important to note because your tracker uses auto-detection to track Sleep Stages; so there's no need to try and remember to click on anything before falling asleep!
  • Do you have at least 3 consecutive hours of sleep?
    • This is important to note because you typically won't see sleep stages if you are waking up multiple times through out the night or taking short naps.
  • Your tracker's battery isn't at a critically low level prior to falling asleep.
  • Your device is tracking and syncing heart rate data.
    • This is important because Sleep Stages uses a combination of your movement and heart-rate patterns.
  • Your Fitbit App is updated to the latest version.

I hope this can be helpful, give it a try and keep me posted in case you need anything else

Hi, interesting question. So moderator, you are saying that we should just fall asleep and sleep stages should begin tracking automatically? Great, will give that a go. My wife also had this ‘problem’

tha ks for your help. Loving charge3 so far

Hello @BillGoesFaster, thanks for joining us, it's great to have you on board the Fitbit Community. Smiley Happy

I appreciate your participation in the Forums and for posting your question. Please note that when your body is completely at rest and unmoving, your Fitbit device records that you are asleep. Sleep Autodetection is based on your movement, when you haven’t moved for about an hour, your device assumes that you’re asleep and if you use a Fitbit device with heart-rate tracking (except Fitbit Charge HR and Fitbit Surge) to track your sleep, you'll see a record of the sleep stages you cycle through at night.

I hope this resolves your inquiry, if there's anything else I can do for you, please feel free to reply.

Thank you Marco

Yes, it worked well last night when I didn’t use the app to + “begin sleep now”

Thanks for your tip.

Ciao,

Bill

Hi there... I appreciate the detail in your answer but it doesn’t apply to me.  I didn’t get any of those messages, when I woke up I simple swiped through my Fitbit charge 3 at when I got to the ‘sleep’ section it simply said ‘no sleep recorded’.  the device is fully charged, in contact with my skin and I’ve set up on the app on my phone to monitor my sleep.  it did it the first night I wore it but not last night.  Thanks!

I’ve tried all your suggestions without gain. It worked perfectly until the recent update. Now only get basic data. Not impressed. Wish I’d left it alone. Please fix it.

Hello @kitkatkaycee, have a warm welcome to the Fitbit Community, it's great to have you on board. It's nice to see yo around @Rick2681, I hope you're doing well. Smiley Happy

I appreciate you have taken the time to report this and let us know you've tried the suggestions provided on my previous post.

@kitkatkaycee, in case you haven't done it yet, please restart your Charge 3, then wear it a bit upper on your arm for the night and let us know if your Charge 3 starts detecting sleep.

@Rick2681, is the tracker not detecting Sleep Stages after the app update or the firmware update? In either case restart your Charge 3 and wear it upper on your arm as well.

I hope this can be helpful, give it a try and let us know the outcome.

It started after the firmware update. On the advice of the tech dept I did a long restart which seems to have rectified the problem. (Well it worked last night) I’ll have to see if it works tonight.

Thanks for reaching out.. it actually happened again last night... very confounded!

UPDATE:

wee it happened again last night... work up to ‘no sleep recorded’... does it have anything to do with whether my phone is on Bluetooth?  seems to me the device itself should be collecting the data regardless of whether my phone’s Bluetooth is one.

Thought I’d fixed this I did the long restart and it worked the first night. But reverted to simplified sleep pattern last night. I’ll try and see what happens tonight.

All the sleep log says is that I’ve got simplified results because it couldn’t get a consistent heart rate reading while I slept. It didn’t have a problem before the update.I hope this helps.

Good morning!
So I did as you suggested and found there were records of sleep stages within the app, but they weren’t completely accurate (for example, it said I woke up at 7:46 on a particular morning, that day I know I got up at 7am to see the sun rise). Additionally, the device keeps saying ‘no sleep recorded’, despite wearing it all night.
Thanks!

My Charge 3 showed sleep stages from the first time I put it on in November until early February when it stopped and started showing simple sleep information.  I have tried all the recommendations in a the forums that showed solved with no luck.  It tracks my heart rate during the night and no other function is having issues.

So I am interested in how I can fix this issue as well.
