Sleep tracked when not wearing a Fitbit

I had my watch off for a bit yesterday night, from about 6/7 PM to give my wrist and watch a rest. I put it back on at 10:45 when I went to bed. Woke up this morning and it seemed to have tracked my time asleep the whole time it was off and my time asleep but didn’t actually track any of my sleep zones. I deleted the tracking from my day since it was so thrown off. Anyone else experience this? Now I’m nervous to leave my watch off for an extended period of it’s going to mess with the sleep tracking.

Hi @DaniD08. Welcome to the forums. I'm sorry for the delayed response.

Thanks for letting me know about your Fitbit's behavior and your efforts while deleting the incorrect sleep log from your account. As you may know, your Fitbit will detect your sleep automatically after spending at least 1 hour of inactivity. Occasionally, your Fitbit can't detect you have taken it off, and it sees what it thinks is your pulse which leads to get an incorrect sleep log. Also, take in mind that if you remove your tracker but it keeps moving, for example if you put it in a pocket, next to a fan or anything that may have been buzzing or vibrating on the same surface, your Fitbit may display an erroneous heart rate reading.

That said, I'd recommend to turn off the heart rate settings whenever you'll take off your Fitbit. Depending on your Fitbit's model you can do this directly on the settings app on your Fitbit device, or in the Fitbit app > profile picture > device image. Also, restart your Fitbit to correct any misbehavior and monitor its behavior.

So do you suggest when I take it off to just turn off the heart rate monitor or maybe put it on do not disturb so that it doesn’t vibrate? And that way it will detect that I’ve taken it off?

Hi Lizzy, this same issue doesn't just happen occasionally for me, but very regularly.  It's most common if I take off the watch (Charge 2) in the morning to take a shower.  It's even happened as the watch is charging.  This seems like a very easy thing to fix, no?
