We are aware of an issue preventing some users from receiving notifications on their iPhone after updating to iOS 13. If you're having trouble receiving notifications and you updated your iPhone or iPad to iOS 13, follow the steps in this article, which are also documented below:
1. GET UP-TO-DATE
- Update the Fitbit app.
- Make sure you installed the latest version of iOS. Tap Settings > General > Software update to see if an update is available.
2. CHECK YOUR BLUETOOTH SETTINGS
- Tap Settings > Bluetooth.
- Tap the information icon
- Turn Share System Notifications off and then back on. If you don't see the Share System Notifications option:
- Restart your Fitbit device. For more information, see How do I restart my Fitbit device?
- Tap Allow when you receive a message on your iPhone or iPad asking if you want your Fitbit device to show notifications.
- Tap the information icon
- Turn on Share System Notifications.
3. CHECK YOUR NOTIFICATION SETTINGS
- Tap Settings in the top-left to return to the Settings page > Notifications.
- Make sure Show Previews is set to Always or When Unlocked.
- Verify the settings for each app that sends notifications:
App | Settings |
---|---|
Calendar |
|
Messages |
|
Phone |
|
All other apps |
|
4. RESTART YOUR PHONE
For instructions, see the Apple help article.
If these steps do not resolve the issue for you, please keep your app up to date, and watch this thread for new information. We apologize for the inconvenience and appreciate your patience while our team works to address this.

You have to go to settings-notifications-messages and select show previews. This is the only way for now for text messages to show up on fitbit until they fix the bug.

Hello @robmcknight
I noticed you put your phone number in your last post. You can delete this sensitive information by taping the three small dots in the upper right of your post. Then tap “edit” in the drop down menu. Delete the sensitive information then simply hit submit again.

I have tried all these step and I am still not getting any notifications. Do you have any idea how much longer it will be before a solution is available?

After 2 hours of searching for help online, your clear and concise instructions worked!! My husband bought a Fitbit Charge 3 for my birthday, and I was able to get everything to work except text message alerts. I updated my phone which was also a suggestion from another thread I found, but that alone didn’t fix the issue. I then found your thread, and step 3 is the one that made difference. Thank you!!!

To everyone that has not had any success - Have you tried to reset settings your iPhone??
Settings>General>Reset
Yes, it’s a pain in the a**! But it was worth it to get my messages working. And it only erases your stored passwords in your apps. It will NOT delete your pics or messages.

Before you give up completely, go to Settings on your iPhone. Scroll to Messages. Make sure iMessage is turned on. Then, scroll down to Unknown Senders and turn it on. This will just separate your text messages into two categories, Contacts and SMS and Unknown Senders. It doesn’t effect who you get messages from. Next, from the Settings main screen, scroll to Notifications then to Fitbit. Turn on Lock Screen, Notifications, and Banners as well as Sounds and Badges. My Banner Style is set to Temporary. Then, set Show Previews to Always and Notification Grouping to By App. This will allow only Fitbit notifications to your Fitbit. If you want notifications from other apps, you will need to set the Notification Grouping for each app separately. After you’ve set that selection for the Fitbit app, though, see if you get text alerts now. I hope this helps!! If not, restart your phone and Fitbit after you’ve done these steps. Good Luck!!

Same here, it's been several months and Fitbit has not found a solution. They haven't even sent out an update to Apple users!
