Fitbit Update: 9/30

Hi everyone,

We're aware of an issue where your time asleep is being miscalculated.

You might have noticed your sleep duration has increased and time awake/restless are being included in the time asleep calculation. In addition, some of you might have seen sleep duration had increased, but now it has changed back to the previous calculation.

As mentioned, we're aware of all these sleep miscalculations and are working to identify a resolution as quickly as possible.

Thanks for your patience. Once we have identified a fix or resolution, we will update these threads.

I watched my stats change right in front of me about two hours ago: this does appear to be a bug.

Best Answer

Same here it all changed yesterday for no reason, it just shows length of time in bed so all weekly totals are wrong and its changed it retrospectively for as far back as i can see, what is going on?

Best Answer

Thank you. I thought for some reason my entire sleep cycle had changed this week(down from 55-60 minutes awake to 15-25), but then started looking back and see that past data has changed as well.

Fitbit, can you clarify? Can you start sending out a notice when you are going to make such a large change?

Hi @Chumfun. I'm glad to see you here around the Community Forums.

Thanks for bringing this to my attention, as well for sharing detailed information of what is displayed on the Fitbit app. To further investigate, I'd appreciate if you provide me with the following:

  • Are the same details showing up in your fitbit.com dashboard?
  • By iOS update, do you mean after updating the Fitbit app or your iPhone's OS?
  • Do you remember the approximate date when this started to happen?
  • Let me know your iPhone's model and Fitbit app version.
  • Screenshot of the sleep details displayed in the app. To attach a screenshot, check this post.

In the meantime and if you've not done so, I'd recommend to give a try to the steps described below:

  1. Log out from the Fitbit app.
  2. Force quit the Fitbit app and reboot your phone.
  3. Open the Fitbit app and log back in.
  4. Sync and check your sleep details.

Keep me posted with the outcome.

@Chumfun  @LizzyFitbit   There is a new known issue with sleep tracking.  Fitbit is aware.

I was going to post exactly that: time in bed isn't time slept.
I've had my fitbits since 2011, and way back when I started, they did this quite well: I cd see when I was restless and when I got up to go to the john, and then when I once again slept. And then, the computer figured out how many hours and minutes I had slept.

Being told when I turned on the counter and when I turned it off is not helpful. That's what we did _before_ Fitbit and a large reason to keep it.
With the present computer glitch, I have to have a calculator on-hand to figure it out, down to the minute. Since it could be done in 2011, I know it's not too complex to do in 2019.

I really hope this is a temporary glitch and that this forum reports to the bosses and the IT section and tells them we are eager for this to be repaired.

Thanks!

PS Also, if they cd fix toggling between sensitive and "normal" are restore it to it's prior fineness, that would be great too!, I can't afford to stay in two Fitbits at a time.

I am having this same problem and it is not okay.

My device has NEVER been able to accurately tell when I am awake unless I get up and walk around. Even if I lie in bed and wave my arm around, it still just reports that as "restless".

So if restless times aren't being counted as awake times, then I literally just have a time-in-bed timer, which I could do myself on my phone for free without any device!

The old functionality needs to be restored. "Restless" sleep is not restful sleep, whether you are technically awake or not. Unfortunately it's hard to trust that this is just a bug that will actually be fixed since I also am stuck with a permanent "0 sleep score" and no way to get back my averages.

Apparently it doesn't matter which iOS version you are on.  Everyone's sleep got messed up.  Those of us using the sensitive setting probably noticed the most.  I am still on 12.4.1 and my sleep calculations have been off since Friday morning.  Is there anywhere we should report or click on so they see how widespread the issue is?  I see posts all over the forum, but if no one from fitbit is monitoring the forums then that won't do any good.  😉

Hope it gets fixed soon!  I hate having to do math on my own. LOL

Recently, my Sleep Tracking has gone wonky, with days just not displayed even when time/hours are

displayed in the Fitbit app.

I forced quit the app and resynced the Versa, but days continue to disapear (see photo). Any info of how to resolve this, or is it a bug from the last update?. Any help from users or staff will be greatly appreciated.

Mine has corrected itself.  I watched the numbers change back while it was happening.  Glad to see fitbit corrected this quickly!

My records have also returned to normal. (And for what it’s worth, the online dashboard was accurate. I hate to say it but I’m so used to the app it never occurred to me to look.)

Thank you, Aless!  My sleeping records are now showing the deep sleep time as before.  This information is much more useful than adding the restless sleeping time.

Thank you for rectifying this, saves me from doing all the calculation myself each morning!  Bless you!

I have Android V. 8.0 on my Samsung galaxy s7 edge and a charge 2.  It is stated that fitbit version 7.0 fixes the notification and caller id problem.  However, I cannot find version 7 in the android playstore.
