Unable to pair Charge 2 with iPhone XR

ANSWERED

My Charge 2 worked fine with iOS 12 on my old iPhone 6s.  However, yesterday I upgraded to the new iPhone XR and it wouldn't sync.  I tried all the suggestions (turning off Bluetooth and then back on again, etc.) and then finally resorted to that last suggestion which was to reboot my Charge 2.  Low and behold, it worked.  However, this morning, I have the same issue.  It just shows that it's "looking" for my device and that it is not connected.  I tried all the same steps again and nothing.  When I get home from work I will reboot it again when I have my Fitbit charger handy.... but how can I get it to stay paired/connected??  Any suggestions?  Thanks!

UPDATE:

Interesting.... I just checked it again now it seems to be connected and syncing fine...  I didn't do anything differently.  Mystery solved.... for now anyway! Smiley Happy

Hello @Shalott, thanks for joining the conversation, it's great to have you on board the Fitbit Community. Smiley Happy

I appreciate you have joined us and let us know you're also experiencing this issue. I would also like to thank you for letting us know the troubleshooting steps you've tried so far. Please note that your Fitbit device will not sync nor pair through the Bluetooth Settings on your phone, only through the Fitbit app, if you see it on the Bluetooth Settings of your phone as a device to be paired and you tap on it to "pair" it, nothing will happen.

With that said, I would like to suggest you to try to set up your Charge 2 through the Fitbit app once again by following these steps:

  1. Restart your tracker, then plug it in and make sure it's charging.
  2. Make sure there are no other Bluetooth devices around that might interfere
  3. Open the Fitbit app and tap on the Account symbol at the top right corner of the screen, then tap on "Set up a New Device"
  4. Choose your tracker and follow the onscreen instructions to continue
  5. When the app asks you to replace your current tracker, please replace it and continue with the process.
  6. When a pop-up appears asking you to Pair your tracker to your device, tap on Pair and continue.

This will reset the connection between your phone and your tracker, making syncing easier.

I hope this can be helpful, give it a try and let us know the outcome.

Hi - was wondering how you resolved in the end? I have the same issue, 6s to XR a couple of days ago and now erratic syncing... about to reboot my watch but cautious of doing so without the sync so I don’t lose data 😖

I am having the same problem too and wondering if anyone has this solution?

I think I worked it out that I had to pair the phone to the watch again. I’m not sure how I did it, a message popped up to pair again. Don’t know how you force that. I’ve not had any issues since the pairing happened. Good luck!

I'm having the same issue. Tracker doesn't pair completely, but shows as connected in the app and in bluetooth settings, so steps appear to be syncing. Device isn't connecting w/ GPS, and notifications and all day sync are not working either. I get a pop up to pair the device, but it thinks and thinks and doesn't seem to do anything. I've restarted everything, reinstalled, etc as suggested on multiple help pages and other forum posts. Anyone have any luck forcing a complete pairing?

That seems to have done the trick. For anyone else who might be encountering the problem, I think the order of operations matters a lot here, as I had done each of these steps previously, just not in this order.

Thanks!

UPDATE:

Update: Those steps didn't work. They worked for a short period of time (when I tested at home last night), but when I went to go for a run this afternoon I go the same "Check Fitbit App" notification, and no connected GPS for my run.

Hopefully there's another thing to try, because I'm not going to re-pair my charge 2 every time I try to exercise.

I have the same problem. Bluetooth on but just going round and round. Have switched on and off but no joy. How do I “restart” the Charge 2?

Hello @ninjadeathtoast, I hope you're doing well, thanks for taking the time to reply. I hope you're doing well @Annie154, have a warm welcome to the Fitbit Community. Smiley Happy

@Annie154, thanks for your participation in the Forums, to restart your Charge 2, please follow these steps

@ninjadeathtoast, if you're having trouble with connected GPS, please check the following requirements:

  • Bluetooth is enabled on your phone and your tracker is connected (paired) to the phone. To confirm, go into your phone's Bluetooth settings and make sure you see Charge 2 on the list of devices.
  • You selected an exercise type from the Exercise app that uses connected GPS. To check on Charge 2, swipe up on any exercise and check that Use Phone GPS is listed and set to On.
  • Your phone is within about 30 feet of your device.
  • Your phone can identify your location and can track your location when you're not using Wi-Fi. (go to your phone Setting > Fitbit > Location and check that Always is selected) For more information on which phone settings you may need to adjust, see How do I track my workouts with my Fitbit device?

After verifying all the requirements, try using GPS again by following the instructions in How do I track my workouts with my Fitbit device? If you're still having difficulty, try these troubleshooting steps:

  1. Open the Fitbit app to reestablish a connection with your tracker.
  2. Reboot your phone.

I hope this can be helpful, give it a try and keep me posted in case you need anything else.

Hi, I've also recently upgraded to the iPhone Xr and haven't been able to sync my Charge 2.

I have restarted my charge, following all the steps provided a few times, but the Charge never appears on my bluetooth to actually pair (phone searches but cannot find it, have restarted phone, app etc. many times).

Please advise if there is a workaround.

Thanks.

Thanks again for getting back to me.
