Has the ability to rename a workout type been removed in 4.04?
Previously I've been starting and stopping workouts via the "Martial Arts" exercise shortcut on my Charge 5, and then going into the workout record via the exercise tab in the app and renaming the workout with a custom name to reflect specifically what I had been doing [e.g., "Class", "Form Practice", "Weapon Training", etc.]
Now the only thing that seems to be editable is the start and stop time for the workout.
Is there something obvious I'm missing?

I also miss this feature.
The new App is useless as of now. Previous UX was by far more complete and precise.
It makes me want to move away from Fitbit (I am in daily since 2016)

True. I also related the shortcut doesn’t work anymore and have been writing with customer support who are as useless as hell!

A month later & still seems Fitbit haven’t fixed the ability to recategorise an exercise.

Yeah, and it is actually four months since the first post here. Not just one.
That they apparently fixed the problem for Android already, will not get me to switch from iPhone to Pixel either.
And, ironically, I need this function more than before since they changed things so that my Fitbit now puts the most recent training type to the top of the quick start list. I can imagine this is good for many people. But for me, whatever I did recently, is NOT what I will do next. Now, I have to watch carefully what new order they have my favourites in before I start...
I feel driven away by all this.

You can only change it on the website which is a hassle. Not sure why they had to mess with the app but it’s frustrating.

Hi Jenn005,
It's actually worse than that. As I've said before, auto-recognised exercises can still be changed on the web site, but not ones which are manually started on the app - these don't have the pencil symbol against them, and definitely cannot be edited.
I've always started runs manually on the app, because that's the only way to get split times through my earphones. First these started reverting back to Walk once the run was finished; then they removed the work-around (see earlier posts) which for a while allowed us to re-categorise them on the app. I don't know if they could be edited on the web site before that, beacuse I'd never had to try; they definitely can't be now.

It's actually got even worse now. This is slightly off topic for this thread, but for the past couple of weeks the tracking of runs has been way out, under-measuring the distance on a 5K run by anything up to 1K. Splits often aren't heard at all until/unless I get my phone out and open the lock screen, and the distance gets more and more inaccurate as the run goes on. My wife has been getting the same thing, so it's not a problem with my phone.
I've tried using the built-in GPS on my Charge 5, but - surprise, surprise - it can't acquire a signal so switches off. This morning I downloaded Strava and used that to track my run, and it was accurate to within 10 metres, so the issue is definitely with the Fitbit app. Anyone else been experiencing this?
I've had enough. I'll continue using the watch for now, but using Strava to track everything, and when I change it I'm off to another brand - and it sure as hell won't be Pixel Watch!

@Rod_O I had the same issue yesterday. I started a walk and my Fitbit would vibrate every few steps and tell me there was no GPS signal. I'm so over this watch I've already cancelled my premium subscription and am on the hunt for a new fitness tracker.

Sadly, it seems once Google buys a company, the quality goes downhill. Similar to Fitbit, the features and quality of the Nest app also went downhill after being acquired by Google. Rates up, quality down, seems to be their business model. It shouldn’t take this long to correct this issue.

And now it no longer works......

I just checked…it still works for me.
Its just a hassle to have to go get in the website and login to do it. As stated above by someone else, it won’t let you edit every activity just the ones with the pencil icon beside it. They should have never messed with the app. It was fine the way it was!

Yeah, google implemented code in release v4.10 to prevent us from using the workaround. The only way to recategorize your activities is to use the web dashboard ... if that activity was auto-recognized and not using GPS.

@Carousels I'm not sure where you heard that this issue had been resolved for Android users, but that is absolutely not the case. I have the most recent version of the Android app and am still not able to edit workout names. Maybe some day they'll get around to restoring that feature for all of us.

This post from one of the moderators stated the issue was fixed on the android app ... except for GPS activities.

I’ve come here to find a solution to this on-going problem.
It’s been almost 6 months since this thread was started. FitBit clearly aren’t working on it, despite us being told that they are aware.
Their customer service are unable to help.
Moderators have posted “solutions” that don’t work.
This just isn’t good enough. It really isn’t.
Sorry, but like others have said, having “Sport” as the non-changeable category for all my different exercise sessions is just not good enough.
We care enough about how we categorise our exercise sessions, of course we do - that’s why we’ve bought a Fitbit. Think about it Google!
They’ve gone backwards.
And they don’t care.
I’m leaving Fitbit for a competitor now.

Hi Bantha
I totally agree. I've given up on Fitbitb and I'm in the process of selecting an alternative too. Good luck.

Me too, every time I have had a hardware issue, the only thing stopping me was that FitBit is pretty good about warranty coverage and I almost always either got a new or heavily discounted device/accessory. This inability to change the workout name though, plus the indifferent response from FitBit (or let's be honest here: from Google) has been the final straw. When this hardware breaks, I am finally going to switch after 10 years as a FitBit user and that makes me sad!

Am feeling the same at the moment…all of the updates from Fitbit have all been about aesthetics rather than functionality for anyone doing activities.
I was going to replace my Inspire HR with the latest but will now look to Garmin etc…
such a disappointing performance by Fitbit as I have been with them for years but they are just ambivalent towards users and not reading the forum threads.
LET US CHANGE OUR ACTIVITIES AND CONTROL WHAT WE ARE RECORDING RATHER THAN DICTATING TO US WHAT ACTIVITIES THAT WE ARE DOING!!!!

Does not solve the problem. One can edit duration or start time but not exercise type in the new version. This DID work in previous version.

After an hour trying to fix the problem with their support team online, this is how it ended:-
"I know that this is not the resolution that you're looking for today. While we know this can be disappointing, we’d like to assure you that teams are working to enhance the Fitbit app and integrate Google technology to create even better and consistent experiences in the future."
Wow! Just, wow!
