Unable to rename workout type on Fitbit app

Has the ability to rename a workout type been removed in 4.04?

Previously I've been starting and stopping workouts via the "Martial Arts" exercise shortcut on my Charge 5, and then going into the workout record via the exercise tab in the app and renaming the workout with a custom name to reflect specifically what I had been doing [e.g., "Class", "Form Practice", "Weapon Training", etc.]

Now the only thing that seems to be editable is the start and stop time for the workout.

Is there something obvious I'm missing?

Still not working, I’m on iOS and it wasn’t working before i moved Fitbit over to google, then it worked for a day, then it stopped working again.  What gives, fix this already!   Version 4.17

Fitbit has abandoned us users. Don’t expect a fix.

It is actually getting worse…I have stopped using Fitbit to track my
exercise! Just counting my steps, monitoring my sleep patterns and
measuring my heart rate…which can be done on any fitness tracker which will
happen when this one finally gives out on me!

Google genuinely have stopped giving a c@@p about this issue or the
customers’ opinion.

What is genuinely scary is that this is Fitbit’s community platform and
there is no evidence of any community management. They take no notice of
comments or issues and allow the users to just rot in their own opinions.

I've found that the only way to rename an activity is to use the web site.  I've also found that for some reason you cannot rename an activity that has been auto-named as Outdoor Bike.  You can rename an activity that has been auto-named as Walk or Sport, but not Outdoor Bike.  It's weird and is probably a bug.

Anything with GPS on can’t be changed.

I tried but cannot even rename the activity from outdoor biking on the website.

This is happening to me as well.

When Fitbit sends a notification regarding my exercise goals, I am able to access an activity screen where I can edit my workouts by clicking it.

There is no other way to access this screen via the app and the regular activity screen only lets you change the timing of the workout. SUPER frustrating.

Me too!   It thinks mowing the lawn is a bike ride!  I want to know how to recategorize that.

Why have the developers not fixed this over the last 6-7 months? The feature was there, and now it’s not…just put it back.

Thank you Lizzy for acknowledging the community's frustration about the
disappearance of a feature that so many of us used.

Hopefully, for those that remain, it will not take another 6 months to
reinstate access to the still existing but inaccessible feature.

And I thought I was alone as a lawnmower frustrated at misclassification! For me it is a 60-minute push-mowing exercise that now generates a very dense walking map around my house. I used to use "gardening".

Well, the website no longer allows changing exercise types of auto-detected or manually started exercises.

Hello LizzyFitbit,

Are you and your colleagues just trolling us all now ....?

We all know that the missing functionality is still there, but has been hidden - occasionally it can be accessed (as others have been noticed) by clicking on an exercise progress report from the app when one pops up, but then it disappears again and can't be returned to.

If Google wished to do so they could have their engineers put this right in no time - obviously they don't have any intention of doing so. It's increasingly apparent that Google bought Fitbit just for its user base and proprietory tech, and are now just deliberately killing it and screwing over the users. If they think that's going to push us towards the Pixel watch, though, I reckon they're very much mistaken!

no timeline for the fix? or no intention to fix?

Well congrats, Google, after 10 years you have lost me as a Fitbit customer. I hope you've enjoyed destroying a great brand.

Well I guess I’m going to have to finally leave Fitbit and lose all my historic data. I was still managing to edit activity type using the web dashboard but that’s gone now and as numerous people have pointed out Google just don’t care what happens to Fitbit or its users. They even say as much on their ‘feedback’ function where they say they’ll ignore ‘unsolicited ideas’ ie anything their users request.

it’s a pity as I have enjoyed my Fitbit. So off to Apple Watch. Luckily I’ve just joined vitality health and they’ll give me one for free as long as I keep exercising.

Export your Fitbit historic data to Apple fitness app or the Apple health app if you want to maintain the data. There’s an app for that!
