When I tap the screen nothing comes up and when I turn my wrist it doesn’t always comes on

From clock face, scroll right to Settings, then scroll down to Screen Wake; tap and cycle through 3 choices - you probably want 'Auto (Motion)'.

Before posting, re-read to see if it would make sense to someone else not looking at your Fitbit or phone.
