Fitbit (e.g. Google) has made some significant changes to the Fitbit app and I'd like to start a thread that documents all of the current bugs or problems with the v4 app in one place. Hopefully, Google will monitor this thread and expedite problem resolution. Please adhere to the following when posting on this thread.
1) Only post issues with the app on the iPhone and not on Android.
2) Please specify which model iPhone and which Fitbit watch you are using and which version of IOS and the Fitbit app the problem exists on.
3) When describing a problem, please be specific and include pics when possible.
4) If you are able, specify which version 4 release the problem started with (4.01, 4.02, 4.03, etc.)
5) Please do not post problems with Fitbit wearables. This topic is only for problems with the Fitbit app version 4.0+ running on iPhones.

App draining the battery.
Starting with version 4.0 of the app released in September 2023, the app started clocking hours of background activity and quickly ran down the iPhone's battery. A number of work arounds were suggested but the only work around that works is to close the Fitbit app when not using it. This problem still exists as of the date of this post in v 4.03 and has been reported on multiple Fitbit and iPhone model numbers.
See this Fitbit Community topic for more detail.

Can’t reliably sync unless hooked to the charge cable.
At 2:50PM, I got my first reminder to move. It’s supposed to start at 6AM. I think this has to do with the sync issue.

FIXED IN V4.04 RELEASED ON 13NOV2023
Starting in v 4.03 of the app, the heart rate no longer appears on the Focus screen when heart rate is selected as one of the 4 focus metrics. In versions 4.0, 4.01 and 4.02, the current BPM or the BPM range for the day (hi & low) would display and now just dashes appears above the label "bpm". I have an iPhone 13 mini running IOS 16.7 and a Fitbit Versa 2

Starting with v 4 of the Fitbit app, some of the exercise screens have white font on a light gray background and are virtually illegible as a results. I have an iPhone 13 mini running IOS 16.7 and a Fitbit Versa 2.

iPhone 12, iOS 16.7, Charge 5
Since the September 2023 update:
And, here are just a few things about the "improved" app that I find disappointing and annoying:
I got my first Fitbit about 3 years ago, and have loved it until now. But overall, the new app is very disappointing, and with the upcoming requirement for a Google account to use it, I've started shopping for a new device.

iPhone 13 iOS 17.0.3 Fitbit Sense
v 4.02
Not auto detecting exercises after 10 minutes of exercise. Have to be logged manually
Heart rate Discrepancies between the device and the app. Rate records too low on the app.
App drains Battery life of iPhone despite opening the app less due to not liking the update. I avoid it because I don’t like the newest update.
v 4.03 hoping to correct problems, now the BPM below the icon is completely missing
This is a disaster. Thinking of canceling my Premium subscription.

@JMark235 Also in your screenshot your bottom right sleep icon is showing ‘duration’ rather than ‘sleep score’.

IOS Fitbit App v4.03 / IOS IPhone v16.6 / sense 2 device / Apple IPhone SE 2020
Ongoing App issues:
Gaps (4 hours +) in Heart rate data while sleeping overnight - leading to:
- Reduced sleep data
- Sometimes no sleep ‘score’ being created
- Skewed health metrics as a result
- Skewed readiness data as a result
- Summary: Premium subscription data features are incorrect on the App every day since installed.
This has happened every day (bar 1 day) since installing the new App v4.02 on the 24th October. If I check my watch, Heart Rate data is constantly being collected. The App doesn’t show the same results.
Bugs in the App visually: no sleep score (numeric) in the sleep Icon. (Sleep Duration time shown only.) Heart Rate BPM icon has no data just a - sign.

It is unfortunate that I don't have screen shots from earlier versions as I seem to remember that the sleep score was displayed in this area. This area is called the 'Focus', appears at the top of the screen and is limited to 4 metrics that can appear in this area. In 4.03, if you edit the focus, the only option available for Sleep is duration. I really can't remember whether sleep score was an option rather than sleep duration. In 4.03, underneath the focus section is 'Hide/Show Metrics' through which you can determine what metrics appear. Sleep Duration toggled to ON will show duration and score.
If you are still on v 4.02, are you getting a sleep score in the Focus area or only duration?

Hi @JMark235 I updated to v4.03 yesterday in the hope that there were some bug fixes that would help me! (Sadly there were not) But in the IOS App Store there are screen shots from Fitbit showing what the 4.03 App update will give you. There, very visible, is the Sleep Icon in one of the four focus areas showing Sleep Score (not Duration) if that helps?

With the 4.02 version of the app, if you added sleep as 1 of the 4 focus areas you could elect to have either sleep duration or the sleep score displayed under the sleep icon. In version 4.03, the option to have the sleep score displayed is no longer available even though the screen prints in the Preview section of the Fitbit 4.03 app in Apple's app store show the sleep score displayed in the focus section (see pic below). Thanks MissyMyData for pointing this out. The option to display 'Sleep Score' in the app's edit focus for sleep is now missing (see pic below). I have an iPhone 13 mini running IOS 16.7 and a Fitbit Versa 2.

Is this a problem that started with the new app? If so please provide details.
----
As far as auto recognizing exercises, have you verified that the auto recognize settings are still setup they way you wanted them? From the home screen, tap the gear icon in the upper right corner, tap "Activity & Wellness", tap "Exercise" and then verify the settings.
----
Did the missing data start with the new app or was it a problem previously?
Usually the missing heart rate data is caused by the watch not being able to detect a heart rate in your wrist at which point the heart rate screen on the watch goes blank. If this happens then the heart rate data in the app will of course be missing. Assuming that there isn't a hardware problem with the heart rate sensor in the watch, the watch fails to detect heart rate and other metrics such as O2 if the watch band is holding the watch against your wrist too tightly or loosely or if the back cover of the watch needs to be cleaned. Try changing the tightness of the watch band and wet wipe the back of the watch.
I also being older have a problem with my skin getting dry and more reflective and find that occasionally using a lotion on the back of my wrist improves sensor accuracy.

Checked and everything is set to auto recognize just as before.

Device is picking up Heart rate just fine and app displays heart rate tracking when clicking into that section. The missing data below the icon only occurred with the v 4.03 update. Unfortunately I have no way to revert back so am stuck with yet another update with errors and glitches.

Fitbit v 4/04 was just released this AM (13nov2023).
In this release;
1) The battery charge level is now back on the app's Today screen.
2) The BPM metric current heart rate in the Focus panel at the top of the Today screen has reappeared after disappearing in the v 4.03 release.
3) The illegible white font on the exercise screens is still there.
4) We should know in a couple of days whether the battery drain problem has also been fixed.
5) In the Focus metrics for Sleep on the Today screen, sleep duration is still the only sleep metric available. Sleep score was previously an option to display for the sleep metric rather than duration.
Since I personally haven't experienced any problems posted by others such unreliable syncing I am/will be unable to comment on whether these problems have been fixed. If you posted a note on a problem you experienced that has been fixed then please edit your post indicating same. Thanks.

Thanks for the update @JMark235 I updated to v4.04 IOS
It’s nice to have the battery level indicator back and a figure in the BPM icon but it hasn’t fixed the fundamental issue of the broken (missing) overnight sleep / heart rate data for me on my Sense 2. So my daily health data analysis is still inaccurate and worthless at present. Perhaps in v4.05 we can have fixes to the bigger issues. Fingers crossed,

Numerous critical features missing from latest update including the ability to categorise exercises; view exercise zones for each exercise; view list of exercises with exercise zones, etc.
App is also crashing (freezing) consistently in a way I have never seen the Fitbit app crash.
Please roll back an earlier version. This is unusable.
