When the app gets stuck on "Connecting to fitbit" ... helpful solution

My husband and I spent probably 5 hours trying to get my iPhone to connect to my tracker, a Charge 3.

We tried all the tricks: turning the bluetooth off and on, powering down, loading and unloading the app, clicking on forget this device, re-booting the tracker, placing my thumb over the space on my iPhone 6, leaving the devices hooked up while the screen continued to say "Connecting to fitbit"... We even made the switch to google, this did not help the situation.

Absolutely NOTHING worked until I went into my tracker itself and under settings, I cleared the data off my tracker. When I took this step, my phone immediately requested to "pair" with the tracker...Taking this step  did not remove any data that has been retained at the website.

Hope this helps. I was ready to throw the tracker against a wall.  Maybe this will help other people dealing with the same frustration.

When I get the stuck connecting message,

  • I stop the fitbit app
  • Clear the fitbit cache
  • If the above fails, I clear fitbit dats.
  • Don't worry, your data is stored in the cloud, not the phone

With all your troubleshooting, did you remove the tracker from your phones Bluetooth. Sometimes this step is all that is required. With low energy Bluetooth, sometimes the app has problems finding a trusted Bluetooth device. By removing the tracker from Bluetooth, it becomes an untwisted device.

By resetting your tracker, you made it an untwisted device
