Why does my Fitbit app use Location when I am not tracking an exercise?

Hi!

I have kept my Fitbit iOS app’s access to location services always on. Based on the other threads I’ve read, the Fitbit personnel have said that my position is not tracked otherwise than during an exercise. However, my phone alerts me that Fitbit has used my location 40 times over the past three days (and shows a map of those positions, for example my trip to another town is clearly visible in that map) and I have not done any exercise in those days.

Why does the app use my location when I am not doing any exercise? What is this position used for? Is it stored to the Fitbit servers?

Thanks for your support.

Regards,

Mari

Hello and welcome to the Fitbit Community @MariV

First and foremost I apologize for the late response. I understand you don’t want your location services on your device. I’m assuming since you’re on the iOS app forum that you have an iOS device. You can certainly turn your location services to “never” if you chose to. I personally have mine set to never and my Fitbit works fine. (I don’t use the GPS map function on my Fitbit so I don’t feel the need to have it on but know I can always change it if I change my mind)

Heres how:
go to

iOS device setting> Fitbit> Location  services> select never

iOS device settings > privacy> location services > Fitbit > select never.
