iOS 16 and Whatsapp notifications

Hi all,

I own a Versa 3 watch, and after upgrading my iPhone to iOS 16, it's not possible to receive notifications from whatsapp. I tried several methods including:

- restart phone and/or watch

- enablying system notifications

- forget/register again the watch

but none of those solved my issue.

On the other hand, I've tried registering the watch under iOS 15.6 (another phone) and whatsapp notifications worked perfectly as expected.

Is anyone facing the same isssue as I do ? Is this behaviour linked to iOS 16 ? is this a bug?

THanks

Paolo

Hi @pcrespi

I can confirm that I am on iOS 16 since it released and have been able to receive WhatsApp notifications and it appears in my notifications list on the fitbit app allowing me to toggle it on and off. Strange that it disappeared when you upgraded even I would be scratching my head at that one.

I know that when you set up fresh no apps appear in the list till they send a notification, then the Fitbit app captures that the app and adds it to the list allowing you to enable it. I would imagine you’ve received WhatsApp notifications to your phone since the toggle disappeared? If not then that’s something to try and if so my only suggestion would be reset the device and go from fresh. Maybe then that might give the Fitbit app a fresh start to identify the WhatsApp notifications to add it to the list.

Sorry not exactly a real ‘solution’ but more of a last chance roll of the dice.

Hi @pcrespilet me give you a warm Welcome to our Community!

We appreciate your intention of troubleshooting this issue.

I understand that you receive the rest of the notifications except WhatsApp notifications, right?

Before anything else, please review this requirements:

  • Your iPhone is connected to cellular data or Wi-Fi.
  • The Bluetooth setting on your iPhone is turned on. To check, tap Settings > Bluetooth.
  • When you use more than one phone or tablet to sync, make sure the other device isn't nearby. If the device is nearby, turn off Bluetooth on it.

To continue, make sure to receive a notification from WhatsApp and Facebook on your phone. Then go to your iPhone settings > Notifications and enable all the options under Alerts and set the Show Previews to Always for WhatsApp and Facebook.

Finally:

  • Open the Fitbit app and tap on your profile picture. Tap on Versa 3 > Notifications > App Notifications. Turn On the notifications for WhatsApp and Facebook. Go back and sync your Versa 3 to apply the changes. You should now receive those notifications on your watch.

Hope this helps.

Hi @GraceGFitbit

thanks for replying.

Unfortunately I tryied multiple times the procedure you wrote but... with no success.

Btw I don't even see the button to turn on notifications..... when going to Versa 3 >notifications > app, there is no "whatsapp menu item" to show...... this is why I guess it's iOS 16 incompatibility.....

Are you aware of any iOS 16 whatsapp notification issues ?

Thank you

@pcrespi a better question to ask is has the IOS Fitbit app been tested with IOS 16. If so have they tested WhatsApp in that scenario?

IOS 16 looks to be a major update with many changes, so having an "all clear" from Fitbit stating it has been tested would be nice. Even better would be a beta test cycle that Fitbit could do with a number of users before stating things work with new IOS releases or releasing new versions of the app.

Indeed @SunsetRunner this was my aim posting this thread.

Basically: is anyone aware of a bug with FitBit app in iOS 16 on whatsapp?

All notifications work... except whatsapp.

I've tried gmail, and several others but... only wa was not sending notifications to the watch.

Btw: as I wrote above, I don't even see the "menu item" to switch on/off notifications for whatsapp... so, to me, it seems clear the wa was not upgraded (or Fitbit app maybe) to deal with this iOS 16..... just looking for confirmations here....

Welcome to the community, @SunsetRunner. @pcrespi It's good to see you again.

@SunsetRunner Thanks for joining this thread and getting in touch with our Support team. I'm sure they'll continue helping you with your case, so please keep an open communication with them.

@pcrespi Thanks for the update and I'm sorry this issue persists on your end. I believe you've done so, but may I know if you're getting WhatsApp notifications on your phone? As you know, the notifications have to appear first on your phone in order to see the apps listed in the Fitbit app. As last resort, let me recommend uninstalling and reinstalling the Fitbit app to see if this helps.

No one has come back to me about messages appearing on my Fitbit. Calls and WhatsApp’s appear.

Dear @LizzyFitbit

actually yes, I did it already.
It seems something not related to the smartwatch, but to my son iPhone
configuration

I've re-installed everything (app, etc.) with MY iPhone, and it works ! So
clearly app and smartwatch are ok.
And I've reinstalled the app on my son iPhone... but still not having
updates (even if clearly Whatsapp send notifications to the phone)

So what I need, is a kind of "troubleshooting" to double check all
parameters on his iPhone....

that's it

Hi there, @HollyShel83 and @pcrespi.

@HollyShel83 Thanks for getting back and I'm sorry the text messages are still not appearing. Just to confirm, have you made sure to verify the Notifications settings on your iPhone? Please note it's required to have them set as Always or When Unlocked in order to get notifications on your watch.

Additionally, let me recommend reconnecting your Fitbit device with the following steps:

  1. Forget your Fitbit device from the Bluetooth settings.
  2. Force quit the Fitbit app and reboot your phone.
  3. Restart your Fitbit device and make sure both DND and Sleep Mode are off.
  4. Open the Fitbit app, tap your profile picture > Set Up a Device.
  5. Select your Fitbit device, tap Replace Device and follow the on-screen instructions.

@pcrespi Thanks for getting back with more details. I'm glad the notifications are working with your iPhone, and in this case the best would be to check the settings of your son's iPhone to make sure everything is correct. Note that you can always check this help article which describes the requirements, as well as some tips to get this feature working.
