iPhone (iOS 14) crashes whenever Fitbit app is opened

Hello!

I've updated my iPhone to iOS 14 and find that every time — every single time — I try to open the Fitbit app, my iPhone crashes and shuts down.  When I try to get back on the iPhone, I get a message saying my battery is now down to 5% (even when it was at or close to 100% charged when the crash occurred).

I've tried removing the Fitbit app and reinstalling it (from my Purchased apps list on the App Store); wiping and restoring my iPhone software from backups (twice, once from a backup on iCloud and a second time from a backup on my laptop); and then finally today wiping and restoring my iPhone software as if it were a new phone (then manually adding everything back on).

This time, instead of reinstalling Fitbit from my Purchased apps, I went into the App Store and downloaded the Fitbit app as if I were using it for the very first time.  No joy.  I got the app installed, synced my Fitbit, and put the phone in my pocket, but by the time I'd gotten upstairs the phone had crashed again.  Same sequence as every other time before — screen goes dark, I have to press the Sleep/Wake button to turn it back on, then manually type in my passcode, then the battery registers as having only 5% juice left.  I once again deleted the Fitbit app, turned the phone off and turned it back on, with the result that the battery was once again back up to 92%, as it had been before the crash.

I hate to think that this means the Fitbit app is off my phone for good (there's no other way to sync my Fitbit as the app and my iPad won't talk to each other, but that's a different tale of woe).  But whatever is happening is frustrating. Any other suggestions for what I might do?  TIA!

After trying all of LiliyaFitbit’s suggestions and others I found online, I gave up on struggling to figure out what to do next.  So I ended up going to a local repair shop (the wonderfully named “Batteries & Bulbs”) and asked them to replace the battery. Thirty minutes (and just $50) later, they returned my beloved rose-gold iPhone with a fresh battery.  I let an entire day go by, just to see how the phone was working, and then downloaded the Fitbit app.  So far, so good!

Thank you, Liliya, for responding.  I still have no idea (and may never know) why the phone kept crashing when I tried to open the Fitbit app (and it was *only* with the Fitbit app), but the problem seems to be resolved now with a hardware fix. I hope this post may help others with the same issue.

Happy new year, everyone!

Hi @vagoughs, it's nice to see you again in our Community Forums.

I am sorry to hear about the frustration this situation has caused. I appreciate your efforts and the additional details. I recommend trying the following:

1. Check if your phone is on the latest version: Update your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch.

2. Go into your iPhone settings > General > iPhone storage > Fitbit > Delete.

3. Check that no battery saving app/feature on your phone is affecting your Fitbit app.

Keep me posted on the outcome.
