iphone app screen is blank

When I try to sync my Alta hr, the app on my iphone seems to go through the syncing process and it says "sync complete" but the screen on the app is blank.  I have tried resettting my fitbit, turning bluetooth off and on, turning my phone off and on, and force quitting the app.  Nothing worked.

Same thing. I tried loading the app this morning, saw it had not tracked my morning run or any of the day's activities, and after quitting the app and loading it up again, my screen is frozen with the blue "fitbit" text at the top, my battery indicator, and a blank white screen for the past hour.

Unable to turn my phone off and on again, or swipe up to close the app or navigate to any others.

Looks like my only course of action now is to turn the screen brightness up and let the phone's battery run out and hope it restarts itself.
