My son's fitbit Ace will not sync on the app when I switch from my account to his. Recently I've not been able to switch to his account and Fitbit logs me out as it takes so long. Can anyone offer advice please?

I would like to confirm if you're using your phone in order to sync the Fitbit Ace? You can check these steps to sync your son's tracker: How do I sync Ace or Ace 2 with my device?
