It's crazy how bad this experience is. I'm really surprised that they haven't come up with a way to allow parents to manage children's Fitbits from a single device. These are for very young kids, after all, not kids who likely have their own accounts or devices.

Yes i did. You can not create new fitbit accounts that are not google accounts. Post the url here to the registration page.

Yeah, no trace of a "register for a new (non Google) Fitbit account" in the UK Fitbit website. To give fleur-de-lis the benefit of the doubt, perhaps this is a regional thing.

Do if anybody can post a "sign up for q new non Google Fitbit account on Fitbit website" link it might be a solution even if a VPN is needed to get around any geo restrictions??

As somewhat of an aside, the idea that users in Quebec need to use a VPN to use their fitbits is kinda mind blowing. What's the reason for that?

This is such a crappy company. This problem has been circulating for months and now with Christmas and everyone got what they thought was a decent product for their kids is just such a sham.

Shame on you fit bit!

shame on fit bit! unfortunately you are not alone in this feat as I am in the same position.

Do better fit bit... this is not a one-off problem and NUMEROUS HOURS of people trying to get this to work is not OK

Just adding myself to the list of users whose children cannot log into the Fitbit app using a supervised Google account and cannot add an ACE fitbit to their own adult account. Effectively rendering this device useless.

I'm giving up on setting up my 9 year old son's Fitbit Ace 2 and will return it to the store.

Maybe it's a Quebec thing but I cannot create a "child" account on Google; the minimum age is 13 years old. I have set my 9 year old's account to be 13 years old to try to work around this issue but when I login with his account, the app is still prompting a "Use Ace 2 with your child's Google Account" pop-up. Why doesn't the app just let me add a device? Why does it have to be a "child" account? Why does it think a 13 years old account has a child?

If I load Family Link to add a child, it just asks me to "Get your child's device" but my son does not have an Android device. The box doesn't even mention any of this. It just says: "Parent or child must have an iPhone or Android or Windows 10 device". There isn't even a Windows 10 app because the developers removed it: https://community.fitbit.com/t5/Fitbit-com-Dashboard/Windows-10-Fitbit-app-removed/td-p/5344767

Anyways, I wasted enough hours on this problem. I hope the devs can figure out how to resolve this. For the devs: Android Studio logcat logs did not provide me any additional information to debug this problem.

Shameful. My 9yo daughter received an Ace3 for Christmas. I spent 2 hours on the phone with support on Xmas morning, to no avail. Just spent another hour today - with no success. After finding and reading this thread, it appeara this product is quite literally, unusable. To continue selling a product that does not work is unbelievable. I’ll be returning this piece of junk tomorrow and will never buy another Fitbit product.

I have exactly the same problem, did you manage to resolve it?

@Fleurdelysée - This is totally a regoinal exception.  In the USA, we are required to use Google for use with the Fitbit app.  As a result, the Google Supervised (i.e. Child) Accounts are not authorized to use the Fitbit app because of restrictions from Google.

If anyone can still create a Fitbit.com account to use the App, this will likely work.  However, this option is only available to specific regions outside of the United States.  I cannot speak to restrictions in Canada, but it's possible this is a limitation for North American users because of these restrictions on the Google Supervised Accounts.

----

As a general response to this issue:  The only way the Fitbit will work for folks in North America is for Google to allow for Google Supervised Accounts (i.e. Accounts for Children under 13) to use the Fitbit app.  This is an issue that Fitbit needs to address with their parent company, Google.

You cant register in Australia either.

Everyone should just return these pieces of crap it's the only way they will get the message.

Hi Lizzy,

my child doesn’t have a device so was hoping to add her to my app, but I can’t seem to do that?
Fitbit’s instructions don’t align with the UX?

So... I had a similar issue.
It's partially Samsung's issue because the s23 apparently doesn't allow multiple users.
As per support's suggestion, I am turning mine and my wife's Galaxy s10 each into a device for the kids. 8 and 5.
I already had a google account for the 8 year old, but "accidentally" set the wrong age (2005) when I set it up 2 years ago... I had to change it to supervise the account. That went very smoothly and google shows the account birthday as Nov 2015.
I set up an account for the 5 year old. Very smooth. Both accounts are now being supervised in the family.

I wiped both devices, installed fitbit, and logged in.. NO PROBLEM. (Ottawa Canada)

Today I tried to log into my daughters, and fitbit thinks she's older than 13 and I'm completely locked out of the app unless I upgrade her account to 13+. No thanks.

I've escalated the issue with google and fitbit. I figure the original birthdate is "stuck" in the backend somewhere... I wonder if anyone has access to adjust it.

@OttawaChris... It's not just a Samsung issue. Any Android OS is
non-cooperative, including on non Samsung Androids. So it comes down to
Android devices not allowing multiple users per device, and Fitbit wanting
the user to be a child Google account in order to setup the watch. But not
every parent has a spare phone or tablet available for their young child to
make this happen.

Fully agree, and needless to say how unhappy I was at the notion that my kid needs their own handheld device. I may have even been a bit rude about it to the chat agent 😔. Then it was a huge conversation with my wife. It definitely worked out that we upgraded ours this black Friday but I was planning to sell the s10's to recover some funds. I very nearly returned the fitbits... A bit more complicated since Santa brought them 😡😵💫

We decided that (for us), it was time to pull off the bandaid and teach them responsible use of screen time. We still haven't handed over the devices yet. I'm still working out the best way to monitor their overall usage. But yeah... The entire experience with FitBit has left a sour taste in my mouth. If anyone asked I would recommend investigating other brands.

I'm also really glad to see that I'm not the only parent who needed to use my engineering degree to set this crap up.  My career revolves around staying at the forefront of emerging technologies. This entire process has been totally counterintuitive and I've been caught in several endless loops that required significant intervention to fix. It should never have been this complicated.

If nothing else, this thread has been very comforting to see that I'm not crazy, nor alone.

After 3 days of obsessing over this topic, I've found a solution/work around.  Hoping this helps people in the same issue.

Goal: To be able to manage my kids Fitbit Ace 3 trackers on my own phone.

Obstacles:

1. Google will not let you set up a Ace 3 tracker without a child account.

2. Google will not let you have a child account on your own phone because for some reason Google wants your child to have their own device.

3. Only child accounts created WITH Family Link will work.  If its an existing supervised child google account - it wont work as of today.

My solution:

1. Create child account under family link app.  Only under the Family Link app.

2. Create extra users on your Android phone.  On the Pixel 8 phone, you Allow multiple Users under settings.  Then create a user account.  In my case, I created 2 accounts.

3. Login using the child account you created in Family link.  This will prompt you to authenticate that you are the supervisor - so you'll need another device to do 2 factor authentication.  I had my old phone that I am still logged into, so i was able to verify there.

4.  Install Fitbit and login, set up the Ace3.

It worked for me, hoping it works for others here.
